Florida Stromtrooper Trip - ALASKA - Summer 2010

I am taking the epic ride that I have always wanted to take.

Leaving June 14th 2010 for a six\seven week trip to Alaska. For the riders that don't know me I am a high school teacher. So I have the time.

Plan to camp all the nights that the weather permits. Have one rider going with me that rides a 1150GS. We thought that 4 riders would be the perfect number. We both love to ride so our regular routine when we long distance ride together is to break camp around 8:00 and ride to around 5:00, but with the extra daylight who knows.

Any takers. Any advice from riders who have made the trip would be greatly appreciated.

Here is the tentative route we have worked out, either doing it clockwise or counter clockwise.

Radium HotSpring
Icefields Parkway
Dawson Creek
Alaska Highway
Klondike Highway
Dawson City
Top Of The World Highway
Glen Highway
Tok Cutoff\Haines Highway
Alaska Highway
Watson Lake
Cassiar Highway
Port Edwards
Yellowhead Highway
************************************************** ***

Possible Side Trips
Dawson City - Inuvik
Dempster Highway

Fairbanks Prudoe Bay
Dalton Highway

Kenai Peninsula
Anchorage Homer\WhitterHomer
Sterling Highway

Bill "SandShark"

This sounds like a great time and will be a trip you will never forget. Just when you think the scenery couldn't be any better, you round a mountain and your jaw drops.

Alaska is expensive, but worth the trip. The ferry gives you the best chance to see whales and other sea life. Riding up and taking the ferry back to Vancouver Island worked out well for me. I boarded at Skagway. Skagway is a neat town and has a helicopter service that will take you on top of a glacier (at least it did when I was there). Going to Deadhorse is cool and the Brooks Range is beautiful, but I believe the best collection of scenery in the state is from Denali south (just my opinion). Here's a trip report from a few years back:
