Well, I was in Ontario Canada, after shelling out $178 for a rear tire in Virginia,
plus $85 for fetching and mounting it, plus $40 willingly paid as a tip to the
young father who did the hard work. It seems that you and I each found out
that continued safe mobility, at a severe price, is a bargain.
Your state is a delight to ride through, as I found out when I tried and failed to reach British Columbia in May 2010. I followed US-64 across the north of New Mexico, all the way to Teec Nos Pos Arizona near the 4 Corners. At that point, the wind, as they say, "Found another Gear", and just about blew me over. I studied the situation during a brief detour to the actual corners, then decided I was not up to the ferocity of those winds. I turned tail and was back home three days later. My choice was wise, I think, because in Nevada a semi-trailer was overturned by the wind and a friend of mine, riding a mere Cadillac, was blown from one lane to another despite her best efforts.
Meanwhile, I was way south, studying New Mexico's sandstone cliffs,
looking for aliens and perhaps finding a few in Roswell New Mexico.
The cliffs amused me a lot, because they strongly resembled the craggy
features of Statler and Waldorf, the aged muppets who criticized Kermit
and the rest from the balcony of the theater in which The Muppet Show
In order to avoid getting lost on that trip, I avoided Bugs Bunny's error.
He once failed to reach Miami Beach and ended up near the North Pole.
To find out where he went wrong, he consulted a much-folded map,
and reported his mistake thus: I shoulda toined left in Albukoikey!
When I reached Albuquerque NM, I went downtown and made a deliberate left toin!
I did the same six years earlier, and this time I made it to the west coast,
but I was not on a V-Strom at the time, so NV, OR, and CA below are white.
