DL800K8 V-Strom

I think they oughta punch out the DL650 to around 820 cc's, and discontinue the DL1000. Whoa! No offense!

I hear they might drop the 1K anyway, and if they could build an 800 and keep it close to the weight of the 650, you'd have the best of both worlds. Especially if it had the dual exhaust on it.

That way they could concentrate on improving just the one model. Put the new dual-spark plugs on it, and ABS. Tweak the motor and it could have nearly the same power as the 1000, and nearly the lightness of the 650. Maybe spoked wheels would be a good idea too. And have it come with a skidplate as standard equipment.

Just my 2 cents, whadda ya'll think?

Agreed. Could be a winner! Drop them both and build a middle of the road model. When the Vee wears out I'd be all over a bike like that. I could live with a little less power if the Wee motor made a little more, and wasn't quite so buzzy on the highway.

One thing I have failed to report is that while at the Cycle World Bike Show in Long Beach I got a chance to talk to some of the Suzuki corporate boys (not dealer monkies) and asked them long and hard about the future of the big Strom. They assured me that there was no plan to eliminate the big Strom. When asked about the sales of 650's vs. 1000's they did admit that the Wee is selling better than the 1K, but that sales of both bikes are rising. When asked about the emissions issues in Europe they replied "It still passes in America!" a puzzling remark. Perhaps the Euro's have just green'd themselves out of an 08 DL1000.

They also reminded me that people have been predicting the demise of the GXSR 750 for years and they plan on making that one as well.

For me Im happy with the 650. I come from big litre sport bikes so the power output of this bike wasnt an issue for my purchase. Actually I would even go smaller as I am not two up as much as I thought. Im a cheap punter and better fuel mileage would be awesome.
So FOR ME: Lighten up the wee.

Don't threaten me with a dead fish!

I find this to be great news as I truly plan'd on a new 1K some time in '08..
I also believe that the Big Vee is an EXCELLENT platform to which many individual concepts of the best adv.touring bike can be achieved... I can't see throwing away the bike in a market that already has so little to choose from. Suzuki only needs to spend some time listening to the the people that already own these fine machines [Note to Suzuki :these are called Focus Groups.. ] to produce the motorcycle they need to build...IMHO.:???:...YOMV

2014 V2 DL 1000 25 miles and Onward

Thanks for that news Mighty Shep. Something to look forward to for sure. Interesting to see how this plays out.
