Unhappy Closing fuel lid without the key

Make the fuel lid close without having to use the key. Since I have my luggage keys on the same ring, I take the key out after I open the lid so not to scratch the tank. It seems like a simple thing that was overlooked.

I've been closing the gas cap without a key since i bought the bike. It takes a pretty good rap but the thing still works.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014-2016 DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012-2016 DL650s

Interesting. There is a lot of key work to gas up, especially if you keep fuel records in a notebook in your luggage. Remove key from ignition, open gas cap, remove key, add gas, reinsert key to close cap, remove, open luggage, remove key, turn on ignition, record gas//mileage, remove key, open luggage to return notebook (I never remove the key from unlocked luggage after I once took a nice, long ride with the side case lid flapping in the breeze), lock luggage, reinsert key in ignition. Yikes, it sounds even worse than it is. Not sure if it's worth the trouble of the mod, but that is a nice option should the task become too onerous someday. Still, I think I'll reserve rapping for my musical career.
