Unhappy Suzuki - where were you?

I went to the International Motorcycle Show in Phoenix last weekend 11-1-2008 and noticed huge displays for Honda, Kawasaki, Ducati, etc. inside the NFL Cardinal University of Phoenix stadium - BUT Suzuki did not have an exhibit inside. All of the companies also had demo ride tents outside (and Suzuki did too), but nothing inside with the other main exhibits. As an owner of an 08 Wee, I was disappointed that Suzuki was a "no show".

Suzuki were at the Melbourne Motorcycle Expo the same weekend obviously their global marketing budget doe not spread to doing two shows at the same time so they went to the most important event.

The show inside was so lame Suzuki probably did themselves a favor by not setting up in 2 places. Of course Suzuki had 2 bike giveaways going inside so I guess they had some sort of presence there.

Shows are expensive and don't really sell bikes. You're still gonna go to the showroom and fingerprint all the new iron when it comes out so why should the dealer try to make every single one that comes down the pipe? You ever bought a bike based on a show...me neither.

Question No Factory Rider Club

Suzuki has never tried to sponsor any kind of rider club. They are alone in this regard among the Japanese Big 4. Ever heard of HOG ? This is a far bigger loss than they realize. For a relatively small investment, they could maker it "elite" to ride a Suzuki. The only place I've ever seen a lot of V-Stroms in one place was last year at the Areostitch sponsored "Very Boring Rally" in Duluth MN. There were almost as many Stroms as GS Beemers. It was a very enjoyable weekend. I've belonged to the BMWMOA, Red Riders, and the Good Time Club. These organizations a great for promoting FUN. Fun is what the sport is all about. I have a sneaking suspicion that Suzuki really wants to just be a car company. Honda and BMW aren't thinking small. Why does Suzuki ?
