There's a nice gravel road connecting Murphy, NC with the Cherohala Parkway at the Tellico River Road.

Leaving Murphy on Joe Brown Hwy, make a right on Hanging Dog Road and another right on Davis Creek Rd. Davis Creek Rd. becomes River Rd. in Tennessee. If you follow the river downstream, you'll go past a couple of nice waterfalls, and come out on the Cherohala Pwy. near Tellico Plains.

i just returned form a 2 week trip in the smokeys.....i love the Cherohala and we had a fun weekday ride and saw very few other bikes....

i rarely ride deals anymore...too many 2 wheeled lazy-boys there for my taste..so many great roads in the area...

Hey....did you see something fall off my bike.....other than me.

One of my favorite rds, specially during the week! I was coming back from NC in February a few years ago, riding my ST, it was 42 in Robbinsville and 28 at Santeetlah (sp?). The only other vehicle I saw that day on that road was a yellow corvette. I remember it being so quiet up there, just me and the ST!

That's crazy, nobody can ride the Dragon when it's below 75!

My ST has a full fairing, heated grips and I had electrics on under my gear.

One winter I went over the Cherohala at 14 degrees on a DR650, probably colder on top. My feet felt like ice blocks. There was a few hunters up there tracking dogs, they thought I was odd...

The blowing snow was dry and the pavement was ice free so other than the cold temps and 40 mph winds the ride was nice and peaceful. Had the whole thing to myself, no other bikes seen till I made I-40 later on when it was in the 40's...

That was the coldest ride in recent memory, I've done the BRP in the 20's a few times with snow on the ground and no heated gear, made me want it though. I did have a jacket liner and heated gloves when I did that Cherohala run. I tried it one day at 19 degrees on my 07 FJR, but I was warm and toasty with full heated gear behind a large wind shield. I'm going to miss that wind protection on the Vee this winter...
