2013 Cancer Sucks Ride

The "Cancer Sucks Ride" is a charity-endurance ride that supports the American Cancer Society through the Relay for Life program. The ride is, among other things, an IBA sanctioned event and participation qualifies you for the Iron Butt Association Saddle Sore 1000 award.

Last year, 12 riders rode from Cental Ohio to St. Louis and circle back through Kentucky and Virginia, completing 1,000 miles in 22 hours. We also raised more than $10,000 for ACS. This year we are on track to triple that amount. The first leg of the ride is a nighttime deadhead from Lancaster, OH to the Tail of the Dragon, where we will be eating breakfast at the Iron Horse Lodge. We will ride the dragon, and meetup with another group in NC, who will ride back with us (including a tour of Kendall Johnson Customs). Once back in OH, they will complete the 2nd leg of their ride.

Cancer Sucks Ride is a 501c3 founded by my good friend, and father of a cancer survivor. You can get more info a Cancer Sucks Ride | Saddle Sore 1000

We have really put together a comprehensive event, including planned fuel stops and several support vehicles. This year I am excited to move from the support vehicle to the bike...I would love to meet some of my new Vstrom bretheren while supporting Cancer Research. You can reply/PM for more details, but the website is pretty self explanatory.

Awesome thread!

Thanks for posting information about the Cancer Sucks ride. My wife has been battling breast cancer since October of 2007 and has been Stage IV/Met since January of last year. We have been going to MD Anderson in Houston, TX since last August and although insurance has somewhat did its job, the ancillary expenses that are associated add up quick.

I started a thread last spring here on Stromtrooper regarding "Motorcycle Therapy" as I called it.....

Anyhow, I have already talked to my wife about the ride while we were traveling back from MD Anderson just yesterday. I hope to participate!

Most importantly, let me add...my wife is kicking some bootie! She is an amazing woman and still goes to work everyday. Let me rephrase, still chooses to go to work everyday! God has been AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! in this whole journey. The "God moments" as I call them have been awesome, encouraging and down right make me speechless at times! I love sharing them, and usually cry a lot while doing it....but that's ok....I don't care anymore...all I care about is getting my wife better and loving/taking care of our three girls (16, 12, and 6).

My short answer to most folks is: In a jacked-up situation, God has been good!

With that, I hope to see you for the ride!

Nate, thanks for posting

Storyteller, My prayers go out to your and your wife. We would love to have you along on the ride but even if you can't make it we would love to honor your wife by adding her name to the folks that we will be riding in honor of. If you don't mind having her name printed on our trailer please send me an email with her information to [email protected]
