Bike Week, Daytona 2013

Any Vstrommers going?? If so, post the dates you plan on being there, where staying, maybe some of the locations you like to go. Perhaps if enough show up, we could get together somewhere for breakfast, lunch, or just at the Suzuki Tent one day??? I know the ADV guys are hooking up..........most of them camp in the Infield of the Speedway.

Me.........

Arriving: Thurs 8-9AM in Deland, March 14......leaving Sunday AM.
Camping: at Clark Family Campground (the old KOA) in Deland (or Orange City??).....trailering down, solo........so far.
Sites: nothing in particular since they won't be having a Vintage Bike Auction this year.....Speedway every day.......Ponce Inlet for lunch or breakfast.......maybe Flagler for lunch one day. Probably get to Main Street early Sat AM to get a good spot for watching the entertaining Freak Show for a couple of hours.

Over 100 Attendees at the May 2019......already planning it for 2020!!

I hope to be up there on the 15 - 17th, but it depends on how my hip recovery is doing and if my new bike arrives on time. It's scheduled to be here on the 13th...

Les Height will no doubt be there.

Go hakafugu yourself.

I'm trying to arrange to go. I've never been (and Mark I sent you a PM asking some questions) and I don't really have a plan at this point. I may try to go early and catch the Supercross event or go later for the Superbike race. Someone said there's a flat track race also but I don't have details. If someone out there knows about the events or where I can find a listing I'd appreciate it.

Here is the official website:
officialbikeweek.com

I try to make the Daytona 200 every year, it's actually why there is a Bike Week, although most of the attendees don't know that. The flat track races are both next to the big Speedway track and at other venues nearby.

Aside from the races, people like to visit Main Street, which is a 24X7 party and parade of bikes out on the beach.

At the track all the manufacturers set up giant tents to show off products. Many offer demo rides too, which are great fun, but you have to arrive early in the am to sign up for them.

The "pirate" crowd hangs out a "Destination Daytona," which was built by Bruce Rossmeyer. It's a huge HD dealership, a bunch of stores like JP Cycle, a couple hotels, bars, etc. Sort of like a permanent bike show/event.

The Progressive International M/C Show sets up at the Daytona Convention Center, which is a block from Main Street on the beach. It's free...not much to it really. Arai, Tourmaster, and other accessory manufacturers are usually there with booths. They also have custom bikes, stunt shows, etc. The past few years Suzuki has been there as well as at the track.

If you've never gone, go. You'll never see so many bikes in one place anywhere else. Usually the weather is great, although there's no guarantees. In past years getting a room was next to impossible, but since '08 it's been a lot easier. There's lots of camping if you want to go that route. Just don't fall asleep on the beach...the cops don't like that.

Go hakafugu yourself.

I'm in Ocala, I think I can get over there on Sat. I would like to meet some other troopers and see what bike week is about. Dave

Headed down from the Norhteast around the 11th or 12th and staying for the week. I am staying in St Augustine at the KOA as I left my camper down there for the entire winter. It will be my first trip to bike week. Hope there is something there for the adventure crowd. Looking forward to being back on the bike!

see below a post from last year. Curious if anyone knows about this ABATE of FL camping area, i. e. does it have good hot showers? Is it fairly quite or a bunch of all night party folks?

An FYI

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ABATE of FL has the cheapest camp sites around. Showers, bathrooms and serving food about 18 hours a day. Ask around for directions.

I'm Going

Going the 9-12. Hitting the Supercross Saturday, demo rides Sunday or Monday, and Fastlane swap meet sometime out at the fairgrounds. Staying several miles north of the Speedway. Actually going to Mt. Dora on the Friday before. The hotel is cheaper and there's some swap meet/show in that area on the 8th
