**If** I am still married in August I likely wouldn't be able to come to Ohio Labour Day as my stepdaughter's wedding is Labour Day Weekend. (I think the Saturday but might be the Friday but either way doesn't give me a enough time to get there for Saturday.)

I think odds are good for the Iron Horse so put my name on the cabin for now. Is that a shared cabin or a private one?

Dang sorry to hear this one is ending, it was always the highlight of my riding year the 3 years I made it. Weather is always such a tough one though and greatly effects the turn out. This ride will be missed!

I only attended one year, but thoroughly enjoyed it - snow and all.

I think it was mentioned that arranging for food was a hassle. For me, I was perfectly satisfied with the nearby McDonald's.

But that's prolly not much of the reason, and maybe no part at all.

On the plus side, I now know where this dealership is, and I often check their inventory, as I remain casually in the market for a Vee2.

Also, from Suzuki's perspective, the trial Vee2 ride I took at Romney, via the Suzuki truck, was what turned me onto that nice bike.

Of course I don't blame anyone for discontinuing this event, but it was fun and much appreciated.

2007 Wee. Blue. Bought at 5K miles. Sold at 32K+ miles. Gone but not forgotten.

2012 Wee2 Adventure. Black. Bought at 26K miles. Now 41K+. Love it! (but plan to own a 2014+ Vee, someday).

I know you've been through this situation, too. Yes, there is a lot of work, but at the end of each event you feel so grateful for the time you got to spend with people you really enjoy seeing. Bob and I often talked about how we had to psych ourselves up just before the event, while fully knowing by the end of the event we'd love what had just had transpired. It always worked that way.

Sunday after everyone was gone, Bob and I would sit down and make notes about what went right and what when wrong, and what should we try to address for the next year. At the end of our meeting we always agreed, it was worth every second of effort put into the event. I would then ride home at under the speed limit just decompressing. Exhausted, but very satisfied. I will miss the Camp N Ride...but it's time was over.

Brian - I do feel part of the Ohio family. Thank you for making me feel that way.

It’s a semi private cabin, I’ll call Monday to get the details for you and Jon. And my Labor Day gig has also been retired, so we for sure need good alternatives for gatherings.

While it really is touching to see the doubt and encouragement, let me make it clear that this event IS retired. There are other events already in the area BUT they are not the Romney Camp-N-Ride and will not be held at Romney Cycles.

All four us us organizers agreed that Camp-N-Ride has ended. This included the dealership owner and his general manager. People would be surprised at how much time and money the dealership put into this and they couldn't just keep writing this off. Building the fire pit, the showers, paying (yes) for the factory trucks, and paying for your "free" meals came straight out of the owner's pocket which shows how much he really enjoyed having us there long after he realized how much it was costing him. Dirt_Dad and I could have found another venue but we each have other interests this coming year which limit our time for organizing another CnR. The two of us really agonized in weighing the good we did for the kids and the chance to see a lot of you, versus these down sides. It hurts to see it come to an end.

As for other events, below is a list of others in the general area. We're not yet sure which, but Jon and I do plan to hit some of these others. The list is on this thread and there have been some updates on the below thread to check for:
https://advrider.com/f/threads/2019-...1350744/page-2

"...below is the list of competing events for all of our time that was mentioned above. We pulled together the ADVRider threads and other known events of 2018 and those already announced for 2019. The events ending with a period are announced 2019 dates and those ending with question marks were 2018 dates, so we don't know their 2019 dates. If any of you have corrections to this list, just post them with your vote and I'll update this post.

As for camping, most people at our event were actually sleeping on the property of The Potomac Center, which TPC originally was allowing as a business courtesy to the dealership. As most of us who met the kids are aware, some have been taken from parents who have subjected them to nightmares. Some of those parents have defied court orders to get access. I would strongly suggest not even asking TPC for permission to camp on their property and would expect to wake to a WV Trooper if you do. (They are in the next building over!)

Clearly he didn't list the Strom Rally. Since that one is bike specific and as far as I know, only listed here, I left it alone on the other forums.

I hate to see stuff kind of fade away. The truth is that there is too much work that goes into these for all but the most passionate to put up with! Unless you have fresh blood coming in, both to help and to visit, things tend to get stagnate.

I think there are too many events. Most are lucky to plan for one a year, some 2 or 3. If the excitement to plan and make the trip isn't there, then you are going to lose attendance. Few have the resources or desire to put on a professional event with vendors and planned/organized events. While these can certainly bring in attendance, they can lose some personality too.

So, the best you can hope for is to be around friends from the forums, past attendance, and the new friends to be made! In the long run those are more valuable than the new riding pants you won as a door prize anyway.

The chance to see V-Tom, Dirt Dad, Big B and some others at the V Strom rally at the Ironhorse has me excited about this years event!

Went three times and always enjoyed! My fallback are rides hosted by "MSTA". Nation wide, welcoming to all makes and styles of bike, huge selection of downloadable GPS maps, friendly people, and inexpensive. This years MSTA rally is in Bristol, Va/Tn June 20-27th. Also, for those wanting to ride identical routes to the past Romney rally, this years BMW-RA rally is at Woodstock, Va, 5-8 Sept, camping or motel options. Hope to see my Ohio acquaintences on the road this year! Jim (phatguy) in Cbus
