But yeah, we ought to be able to figure something out if we decide we want to meet up and ride together.
I've done the Tellico Plains to Lexington route via highway 27. It was a fun ride VS the slab. 68>11>72>58>40>27
The only issue I had was the traffic at Lexington going from 27 to I-75. Going down to the rally you'd go down to I-40 and snake southeast.

I'll be bringing a set of TechSpec Gripster tank pads with me that will fit a '17+ Wee. Long story, but TechSpec sent me an extra set.

These won't be free....they'll cost someone at least 1 beer

I drive from home to Pineville, KY and back, every Monday for work. I take I-75. Word to the wise, starting about 60 miles north of TN, I-75 is under construction and lanes are sometimes closed. I have seen some traffic delays. The KY State Police are also heavily patrolling from Berea, south to London.

I think I am going to stay west of I-75 and make my trip down to the Rally using Hwy 27. I did this last year and only hit traffic near Oak Ridge.

My job in Pineville continues for a few months, so I will update this again Rally week.

IH Lodge Notes...........

I have been talking with the Iron Horse Lodge, and wanted to post some new (and old) things to expect once you arrive.

1. a new covered bike parking area, enough for 20 bikes. Not sure of the location, my guess is closer to the tent camping area right next to the Lodge (but, just a guess??).
2. Bridge was rebuilt this Winter.......I assume they meant the road bridge over the creek (and not the pedestrian bridge). I'm sure that was $$$$.
3. New bedding (mattresses) for cabin campers.
4. No more Little Playmate Coolers for rent (boo!!) for your.....ah......"beverages". Instead, Styrofoam coolers are sold in the Office.
5. Ice Machine and Soda Machines have been moved to down near the bike unloading dock, next to the Restroom Area.
6. Meals are same time, different menu each week.........Prime Rib still served Saturday (Yummy!!). They will send out a Menu Selection (via to your email, if they have it) a week before the Rally.
7. They now offer a "bike retrieval" service if you break down far, far away (from the Lodge). They also own Wolf Creek Rentals just up the road: rent yourself a Slingshot, Jeep, Can Am Spyders, ATV's. I believe Korny rented a Spyder or Slingshot last year sometime when his wife came up there. He recommended it.
8. They have assigned us a new "Group Coordinator", Becky, who will cater to our every whim........well, almost. She claims she can change out a 2009 DL1000 clutch in 23 minutes.........flat. (beat that RealShelby!!)
9. I don't know any news concerning their strength (lack of) Wi-Fi signal.........will find out when we get there.
10. The IH Website will be updated soon........stay tuned, same Bat Time, same Bat Channel (for all you baby-boomers who can remember that line).

Thanks for the update Mark sounds like some improvements. I am looking forward to those memory foam mattereses in he bunk houses.

It would be easy to improve the WiFi at the lodge but not as easy to improve that incoming signal. As soon as someone starts sending a 4K picture of his plate of food it’s gonna come to a grinding halt as always. So everyone best be coming for the experience because if you are coming for the WiFi you will be severely disappointed.

That said a lot of people look foreward to a “lack of signal”. You will love it!

Verizon works Somewhat and AT&T is non existent

Your statement is true not just for the Iron Horse but most of the scenic riding areas around there.
Even with Verizon coverage is going to be hit or miss on the Cherohala Skwy, Blue Ridge Pkwy, the scenic parts of 28.
Verizon has been the most reliable in my experience, but don't expect coverage as if you're walking around down town Chicago.
