Been to Vegas twice, temps were unseasonably warm when I was there in January and November.

Rented a HD in town and rode around VOF.

We have a derby up here every NYD.

2019 I-Cycle Derby

Sometimes I sniff self righteously when I'm asked if I ride year 'round, "Of course I do!".... but a ride that started last year at minus 10? EGAD!

On the other hand, 3 hours at an average speed of 16mph might be a bit more "pleasant" than my 460 mile, 60mph+ 20-30ish degree SLC to Vegas jaunt. The return home ride (south to north) is worse..

Better or worse?? Who knows ....its getting out on the bike that counts!

Just a heads up for this ride.
Throw a roll of Toilet Paper in your bike and maybe a trash bag.
With the government shutdown people maybe bigger pigs than usual, be better than others pack your trash out and maybe even pick up a little if you see something lying on the ground.
Make it better than when you arrived!
See you all Saturday.

Restrooms and Trash Removal
National Park Service-provided services are limited. Most flush toilets are closed. Vault toilets at Ryan Entrance Station, Zabriskie Point, Golden Canyon, and Badwater remain open and will be maintained. Other vault toilets remain open but are not being cleaned or restocked with toilet paper.

The National Park Service is not picking up or removing trash during the shutdown. Dispose of trash in a dumpster or trash can that is not full in order to protect wildlife and avoid a citation/fine. Do not leave trash on top of or next to a dumpster or trash can, or stuff trash into a full one. Please pack your trash out with you if you cannot find a dumpster with space.

I was through Furnace Creek last Friday Dec 28. Yes campgrounds are officially closed but unofficially open as many campers were present. Campground bathrooms were locked. Bathrooms were available in the private/commercial part of the Ranch. The campground dumpsters were in use but will likely fill fast. Many changes since the last time I was there with new buildings at the Ranch including store and restaurants. New prices too. I saw a 6 pack of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale was $15.54!

Seems Death Valley is becoming a rich man's game.
I remember back when there was hidden campsite behind the store/restaurant with a shower even and you had access to the swim pool at the motel for about 10 bucks.
Camped at PAnamint Springs a few years ago. funky campground and decent over priced burgers at the eatery.

I remember that. There was a grassy patch where we could pitch our tents for free, nearby building had free showers that felt so good after a January ride.

Campgrounds are cheap if you have the senior pass or you can back country camp for free. I bring my own food to cook/barbecue as well when I trailer the bike though not practical if I ride. Then it's peanut butter and jam.

yeah the new improved version is not to my liking. bean counters rule today's world.

Was it free? Don't remember. Then to think of camping in the Park run campground area with grease soaked dirt around the fire pits and foul pit toilets or whatever they pass off as their idea of sanitary.
Dang head ranger should be made to sleep in them. And they wanna charge you for the privilege of being there.
