Exclamation 2019 Romney Camp N Ride!

2019 poll for 2019 Romney Camp N Ride!
As Wreckcheker and Dirt_Dad mentioned this spring, we want feedback on what dates are most attractive for everyone.

Considering it would have been nearly impossible to have picked a dry weekend in 2018, I was inclined to suggest going to our traditional first weekend in May. I brought that up with Romney and was met with hesitation. That weekend is in direct conflict with a the Apple Blossom Festival 40 minutes away. It turns out to be very challenging for Romney to identify food vendors (or even a single vendor) to support the Camp N Ride. The food vendors are at the festival and Larry always has to work hard to find anyone to support us that weekend. Without a doubt, it is the single biggest PITA item for the dealership about hosting the event in early May.

Rather than avoiding early May as an option, we are still putting it up there to see if people are okay with not having on-site food during the Camp N Ride.

The weekend after Mother's Day is also problematic in that is conflicts with multiple other adventure events traditionally held on that weekend. One Strom event and another official ADVrider event, just to name two. It's not our goal to step on any other event. It's on the list, but unless there is overwhelming demand, it's probably not going to be strongly considered.

All the other dates would be totally new for the Camp N Ride. As you vote your preference, please let us know if there are any other events we're not aware of that would make any of these dates undesirable.

You may pick your top two choices.

Not sure how to click on the poll. My first choice is the early to mid Sept. Weekend after Memorial Day is out. Myself and a friend always attend the Dirt Daze/Americade rally in Lake George NY. That is the first full week of June, which the weekend after memorial day would conflict with. Thanks

No matter when you hold the event some folks will not be able to make it and it will undoubtedly conflict with some other even either motorcycle or non-motorcycle related.

I suggest whatever work best for those putting the event together it the date/s. Those who can make it will and those wo can't won't. You can't please everyone so make it a convenient as possible for those pulling the plow.

Wet weather has been the "main issue"......I am for anytime late Summer or early Fall, as it tends to be pretty dry.

Unless they invent a weather altering machine wet weather will always be an issue. I live not too terrible far from Romney and yes the summer/fall is generally dryer but you still can't account for pop up thunder storms that will drop 2 or 3 inches of rain in an hour with high winds wreaking havoc on tent city then be sunny and 95* 3 minutes after it passes.

I'm all for the planner to do what works best for them. If you want to drive yourself nuts try get 4 buddies in a room and plan a 300 mile overnight motorcycle ride. One person will want to stop every 1/2 hour, another will need to eat at a certain time, one will like highways, other will want back roads. Some will need to be home at y 5pm other by 2pm and on and on.

Now plan a trip by yourself. Pick fuel/food stops and routes. Then call up your 4 buddies and tell them we're going on a ride and stands up at XYZ time. They'll show up and do whatever is planned w/o any issues.

One time my buddies lady friend was complaining about stopping at a McDonalds for a quick lunch stop on a 5 day trip we were taking that another buddy planned out 100%. My buddy told her if she didn't like McDonalds that she should plan a trip and try to plan routes, fuel stops account for rider ability/age, hotels, restaurants and points of interest along the way. She shut up pretty quickly.

Plan it an most will come. Give the masses a voice and the whole thing will get mired down to the point if extinction.

Have YOU been to this rally yet? I've been to 4 of them, and nobody is upset with or cares about pop up showers or the occasional storm, we've been dealing with rain basically the entire weekend for several of the rallys. We are talking cold rain and temps too, so a nice warm late Summer or early Fall would be welcomed. Guess I am fortunate with my best riding buds, as we are all on the same page when it comes to literally anything and everything.

No worries there. We are definitely interested in the thoughts of the potential participants. But when it comes to finalizing the plan it will come down to Kevin (owner of Romney Cycles), Larry (GM of Romney Cycles), Wreckchecker and myself. The owner and GM are ridiculously easy to work with, so any true blame for what people don't like can be limited to Wreckchecker and me.

We have this opinion poll going on the three regular sites. Interesting to see the significant differences in results from site to site. Until the four of us sit down to review what you've all told us, and we hash out the details I really don't have any hints of what dates we'll be doing next year.

Regarding weather, we've still had more perfect weekends than washout weekends, but the score for each is getting very close. In 2018 we've had a ridiculously wet year. We had rain on 9 out of 12 weekends according to one TV weather guy...and it's felt like it. I'd like to think 2019 will be drier, but I've learned I'm a lousy weather forecaster, so I'm out of that business. I will say that even the weekends that had a washout forecast, the weather broke enough that the factory trucks still had dry enough roads to trust riders of unknown skills to head out on unfamiliar bikes. Perfect weather is preferable, but I believe everyone that came still had a great time.

Thanks to everyone for voting and letting us know your thoughts. My hope we can nail this down and announce a date before the end of the year.
