V-Strom WESTERN rally?

Hey guys I haven't seen anybody post about the Western V-Strom rally this year. I was wondering if anybody was going to head the rally. If no one was going to get a ralley together maybe we can just meet up for breakfast at "The Rock Store" in Malibu. Just throwing it out there.

You can throw out the Rock Store. Harley poser salon! Neptune's Nest is a similar dive. Great roads for playing in the Santa Monica Mtn;s though.
Some of the places in Ojai or the Air port in Santa Paula are a bit less motorcycle inundated, and the ride there involves curves through the hills.
If you travel a ways from home the 3rd Annual Cache rally in Idaho is kinda set. It's only a thousand miles from us in LA. A good days ride!

I've been wondering the same thing. Really? No Western Rally? Not that I'm volunteering - which I assume is the issue.

Your right, that is the problem. At last years rally nobody stepped forward when it was brought up. It was even posted on this forum. This will be the first year since 2006 that hasn't had one.
As posted by Notacop the Cache Rally is a nice(More lowkey) alternative and has been in different locations each year. This years is in Enterprise, OR. There are a lot of great rides here as this is close to Hells Canyon. Both paved and dirt.

Rally events can be a really great time to meet others with a similar interest. Sort of give an "official" reason to ask off work, do a major trip prep on the bike and try out new gear.

No one I know makes a dollar off putting on a V Strom rally or probably most others. If you have enjoyed a rally in the past, consider asking those that organize it if you might help with it next year. That is what it takes to keep things going. You might be surprised at how far just a little bit of help goes to making the event really good!

When the wife and I belonged to the So Coast BMW club, we did the food for the rallies for a few years. It's some work but we figured that our efforts to host rally go-ers was our pay back for attending other club's rallies.
Now some of the west coast rallies BMW have died because the latte slurping, motel/hotel staying BMW riders don't want to do anything themselves.
But, it's more difficult to find group sites for a rally since there are too many genteel folk that don't camp, Wah. Dirt, we don't do dirt!
Then one gets into the INS and responsibilities of an organized event. You know that the AMA just loves to insist you pay them for Ins.
The Cache rally is a camp out. Ya wanna go, fine. If you go, it's your volition on the line. You get hurt, you no cry now.

For certain.

I hosted the 08 Western Rally in Cedar City, Utah. About 90 bikes showed up. We took up the entire hotel for 3 days. Rides to the Grand Canyon, Utah's Hwy 12, etc. Good times!

I can't speak for anyone else, but I had a super time.
Even with a committee of four (me, Snownut, Barnstromer, and Involute (and wives)) it was a TON of work. As for making money....nope, it ended up costing me a little bit. No complaints.

Anyone up for a ride is welcome at the Cache Rally. It's a 'No Frills" rally... Just show up, BS, ride, BS....repeat.

yep.... it's a lot of work to pull things together like a rally.... that is what I like about the Cache Rally... I'd call it more of a small "gathering"... oh, and I guess I've become one of those "genteel folks"... sleeping on the ground at this point has gotten tough for these bones

I don't mind using a camping cabin when you have enough non snoring folks to share. Perhaps a Yurt? At least you would be in the vicinity of the occasion.
I attended a rally with an older friend who wanted to motel. As soon as you leave the rally for the building, the feel of the occasion goes away.
But, everyone to what suits them best!
