Any Long Distance Strom Drivers interested in an Iron Butt 50CC

The Motorcycle Tourer's Forum is organizing a 50cc (50 hr coast-to-coast ride in April. The MTF does a great job!

I did a Border-to-border 36 with them a year ago.

April would be a great time of the year, but I can't try it until the hot months of July or August when I'm off work. Good luck!

Not an impossible task. Important is a max gas capacity for fewer stops and getting used to long hours in the saddle.
I've heard some interesting stories from successful contestants.

Brian

How ever many is between the two points coast to coast. You can pick any city on the Atlantic Ocean to any city on the pacific. Common routes are New York to San Fran and Jacksonville Fl to San Diego.

Va beach to LA. Is 2736 miles. Non-stop you would have to travel @55mph to make it in 50 hrs

Just looked over google maps....Makes for an interesting (read.. sleep deprived) ride. In Canada our top speed is 110 kph (63 MPH). What would be the top (legal) speed say between New York & San Fransisco (an educated guess is OK)?

In NY the top speed is between 55 and 65 on the various freeways and 25mph in NYC such as Manhattan. I'm pretty sure the speed limit in San Francisco is similar. But when you get to the Midwest I believe it gets to 75-80...that's where you make up for lost time.

My last 50CC was certified at 2,374 miles. (Jacksonville FL to San Diego)
That was done in 46 hours start to finish and I got to take a 5 hour nap at Junction Tx.
If I can get the V-strom (Wee) and sidecar fine-tuned I plan on being about the forth recorded sidecar rig to do the ride.

I really want to do a 50cc but probably will not be ready to do it till next year at the earliest. Plan on riding out doing the 50cc then taking a long wandering trip back visiting places. But right now my bank account says I have to stay home stupid bank account.
