V-Strom Gathering East - May 12-15 2016

The Fourteenth Annual V-Strom Gathering East is scheduled for May 12-15 2016, held at the Ironhorse Motorcycle Lodge in Stecoah, NC.

The Ironhorse will hold all of the rooms and cabins for our event until January 15th, so make your reservations ASAP (phone 828-479-3864). Tell them you are with the V-Strom group.

For those not familiar with the Ironhorse Motorcycle Lodge; it offers private rooms, semi-private rooms, bunkhouses, cabins, RV hook ups, and tent camping sites. All sleeping areas are within 200 feet of the lodge. The lodge is equipped with a massive projection TV, dining area, game area, a theater room, tons of maps of the area, a computer, free internet, a gift shop/store, a huge back porch with rocking chairs, a fire pit, and very nice showers and restrooms. Breakfast and dinner are served on site. Everything there is FIRST CLASS!

A few other things...

Tent campers do not need to make reservations.

If you make reservations or plan to tent camp, please post in this thread for planning purposes.

The Ironhorse is in a dry county so bring your own, if you are so inclined.

Folks will arrive Thursday (12th) and Friday (13th). Most head home Sunday morning.

Most group rides will be Friday and Saturday.

All bikes are welcome.

Hope to see you there!

Group ride info?

Will any of the group rides be on forest roads, etc, or all on the paved roads? I have done all of the roads you mentioned in your post at least once, but I would be very interested in the group rides if they include some of the forest and fire roads.

Thanks and Ride Safe

There are usually several groups that get off pavement. Most will ride graded gravel, forest roads, and unpaved county roads. There are plenty of places to ride if that's what your after. John, the owner, is a wealth of knowledge for area roads and is always happy to help plan routes.

Yes several of us are planning more off road adventures this coming May. We didn't get to finish our tour around the National Park last year because someone decided to fall down and break a leg, so we want to finish that ride. Bill and maybe Todd and a few others will most likely ride on road Friday then switch to dirt Saturday but all plans are fluid and subject to change at any moment. That's what we like about our totally unorganized group. Its fun even when you fall down. Really looking forward to riding the trails and gravel around the area.
There is always something for everyone to do. even if you just sit at the Lodge and read all day, whatever your preference you will enjoy your visit with the V-Stromers.

I recently bought a set of those wheels you mount to the side of Gold Wings to hold them up. About done fitting them to the V Strom. Will I be ok riding off road with those? I can't wait to attend the East Rally and try my auxiliary wheels off road.

Thanks Mark444, I already have several not so nice handles now. I just need to go fast all the time, I never fall down unless I am 10mph and under. Bill and I were just practicing synchronized crashing that day. Less than $100 to fix the Strom, more than $$$$$$ on me so far and counting. Should be 100% by May. Wife wants me to put spikes in the tires if we go that way again. My advice to all, don't crash 120 miles from a hospital on dirt roads.
See you guys at the Iron Horse.
