Heading to the drag strip tomorrow.

I'm heading to the local 1/4 mile drag strip tomorrow, hoping to beat my old time, when the bike was running way lean, of 12.25 seconds. Hoping for the upper 11s, like 11.75. 1/2 second is a lot of time to shave off, so wish me luck. My son in law is going to run our TL1000. I will report back on our luck. Bobby

Good luck bobby!

Running in the 11s on that big bike would be awesome. Are you running out of gear at the top end?

I used to drag race Mustangs out there back in the early 2000s.

My day at the strip.

Mr. Black, there were lots of Mustangs out at the strip, carrying the banner for you in your absence.

I only got three test runs, and one of them it popped out of second or third, so it really was two test runs. The best time was 12.05 with a couple 12.1s. Disappointing to say the least. Just a slight headwind. My one competition run was 12.16 and lost by 0.08. My TL, ridden by my son in law went about 3 mph faster, at 116+ to my 113+. He had trouble getting a hard start, fearing doing a loop on the starting line. And a note to those of you who have not tried this: The strip at the starting line is so tacky that your boots stick to it! You can spin the tire, but you have to work at it. They really bite! There were around 12 bikes there, all but three of which were dedicated drag machines including a custom drag harley which was very fast and the loudest bike I have ever heard. It was literally painful to listen to. You had to cover your ears. The riders were all very nice and helpful. A good experience. Give it a try sometime. My lowly Vee was the slowest bike there by 3 mph. Still fun.

Mr. Black: Running out of gear at the top end? No. It's the top of 4th gear at the end. I didn't check the rpm but had to be near red line. I've had it to 129 (corrected) in 5th before the TRE installation. I haven't had the opportunity to see what it will do in 5th now. Not that I really need to know. I suspect that 135 is about it.

Good to know bobby.

I've never rang my Vee2 out to a 1/4 mile distance. Was just curious if by the finish line if she was in top gear or in top gear and running out of rpm? Sounds like you have plenty of room to play around with it.

You could gear it a little lower and get it into the 11s no problem as long as you could keep the front tire down.
