NEVA 2015 - Final Prep

NEVA 15 – Final Preparations

Date:
July 31, 2015 - August 2, 2015
Please note that a lot of people are arriving early and staying late

Location:
3347 NY-28
Old Forge Camping Resort
Old Forge, NY

Introduction
Here is your chance to join some great people on a weekend of riding, eating and forming new friendships with other motorcyclists- all are welcome including new riders. This year we will have a group for new riders/picture takers that will travel at a leisurely pace (speed limit) on pavement only. If you are a new rider this is the perfect opportunity to try out your first group ride without having to worry about egos or keeping up to fast paced riders!

Typically we have 60-70 people show up for this event! The group rides are broken into several smaller groups. There will be a group for EVERYONE. Like to ride fast and carve up the twists? there is a group for that! Are you a new rider? Don't like the dirt roads? We have a group for that too! There will also be a "slow" group, the pace will be leisurely with frequent stops for taking pictures, sightseeing, etc.

Campground:
Old Forge Camping Resort: Adirondack Vacation Camping, NY, Cabins, Cottages, RV, Tent Sites
IMPORTANT:The campground is fully booked, if you do not have a place to stay… come anyways we will find a spot for you. We are allowed up to 6 people her site and a lot of people have a site to themselves so we have lots of room for you!

Emergency Information
Please download the emergency contact sheet and have it with you!!! . It's very important! Having someone tell the first respondents your name is "Tenny80" is of no use to them lol.

FOOD:

Grocery Store:
Diorio's Supermarket
2938 NY-28
Old Forge, NY 13420
United States
Friday Evening:
Slickers Adirondack Tavern @ 7pm
Flash Intro Page
3132 NY-28
Old Forge N.Y.
315 369-3002
we do not have a reservation, they take people as they come in. It is a moderately sized restaurant, and people will be eating in groups of about four due to the size of the tables.

Saturday Evening
Chirosyd has secured dinner for NEVA riders on Saturday night at the campground. This is what everyone wanted-to be together around the campfire, eat and shoot the bull.

The food manager at the water park next door will be bringing dinner over at 7 p.m. Salad, barbecue chicken, sausage and peppers, salt potatoes, coleslaw and fruit desert. Garden burgers for those who don't eat meat. They come recommended, and the cost will be 20. per person including everything but drinks. You MUST prepay Chriosyd via paypal for dinner Saturday evening. Below is the list of everyone who has paid, if you are not on it please contact Chriosyd immediately.

Group Rides
No "official" group rides are taking place, it is up to you to sign up for a group or meet some people at the event. It is up to each group to come up with a route. Before you leave for the group ride please meet at 8:45am by the main entrance of the campground for group photographs.

Friday we not have a group ride sign up, but with the amount of people showing up on Thursday I thought it worth posting what I know! Chirosyd and Blaustrom both are willing to lead group rides on Friday. Groups are generally kept to around 8 riders but that's up to the leaders of that group. Chirosyds group is going to be leaving the campground from the main office at 9am sharp. He has a 6 hour pavement only ride planned, plus a lunch break. Blaustrom I believe is leaving at 7:30am for his ride (it will contain dirt!). Please PM them if you would like to ride with them!

To sign up for a Saturday group ride please see this thread: here

We do have some suggestions though:
Blaustroms Ride
Dropbox folder with GPS routes
Petes GPS Files
I hope to see everyone there, ride safe and don't forget to tell Chirosyd thank you for all of his hard work in organizing this event/meal for us! If you use someones route it's also a good idea to thank them as well, a lot of time and energy goes into those routes! I know several people including blaustrom, NJbill, chrirosyd all went down to Old Forge to scout routes to make sure we would have a great event!

Finally... NEVA is a gathering of riders at a campground, if those riders chose to go on group rides they are doing so at there own risk, NEVA does not have an official group ride!...

All riders are responsible for their own safety and which routes to ride. Nobody shall ride beyond his or her comfort level if you follow others. If the pace is too fast or if there are other safety concerns do not continue following and always make sure you have a backup plan how to get back to camp.

The lead riders are not tour guides or riding instructors or have responsibility of any kind for anything other than themselves. Anybody following them does so for their own convenience and takes full responsibility for their own actions and nobody shall be liable to anybody following them.

Who built the 90 mile dirt route? I have a question for them about the section west of 28 - Old Uncas Road.

Route 2 is my route... i've never ridden it but did a bit of research to find some decent roads. It's in the opposite direction as route 1 so should give a nice mix.

Duh... I meant east of 28 - Old Uncas Road. Is that a dirt road? If yes, it looks fun.

There is a house with a truck in the lot about half way along Old Uncas, so it should be quite passable. Most satellite views are in the trees, but zooming in on clearings, you can see the road. The shade will be a welcome relief.

Tyre shows the speed on Old Uncas as 15mph. I think it follows the roads that allow free camping, hence the slower speeds.

I was just looking at the 6 hour dirt loop again, which has a large lower loop off Bill's Saturday track on Moose River Road, taking Otter Brook Rd around to Indian Lake Rd. I am still concerned though that it may be unpassable depending upon water levels. It's been really dry up here, and perhaps the satellite image was after lots of rain. There are a couple of sections that cross the river without a bridge. Yuval can probably to it on the Tiger

I'm not going anywhere near that route LOL. The water looks to be moving fast... so I googled it and it's a popular white water kayaking river

I'm sticking to the pavement with Syd LOL

Yuval will probably build a ramp and jump it
