Abandoned Ontario Ride
I am planning a little adventure ride to see some of Eastern Ontario's forgotten and abandoned places and points of interest. The ride is planned for the Victoria Day weekend. I will be leaving Ottawa on Friday morning and I am going to head to Camp 30, an abandoned WWII POW camp near Bowmanville first, arriving there around 12:30. Then I will be heading up to Harcourt to search-out an abandoned lumber mill off of Elephant Lake road, and then further north to Burwash to check out an old abandoned prison, decommissioned in the mid-70's.
I am thinking of heading off to Manitoulin Island afterwards and returning home via the Bruce Peninsula, taking a ride on the Chi Cheemaun Ferry to Tobermory.
If any of this sounds at all interesting, and if anyone has any other interesting 'forgotten' places to explore, chime in. The ride is open to one and all. There are no hard-fast parameters - join in for 1, 2, 3 or all 4 days. I will be camping whenever possible, but can easily be convinced to share a motel
So - what say you?
Today is the only day that truly matters. Here's hoping that yours is beautiful.
