Deals Gap 2013, WEEEEEE! ('s), Sept 21st-28th

Well, at least two Wee's already. Mine and another. Vee's are welcome I suppose, as is any other bike!

We have 3 of us confirmed as going already. We'll be staying here:

Tail of the Dragon Vacation Rentals near Cherohala Skyway and Deals Gap

This will make my 8th week down there. Mid September is still nice and warm (hot) enough for swimming in the local rivers while taking a break during a nice ride. But not horrible like July. Most of the traffic is done for the season on the Gap itself, but the real pleasure is all the roads around it.

We're a lighthearted group who like to ride the twisties, eat good food and be merry in general. No feelings get hurt and there is ribbing abound. We make dinner/breakfast at the house most nights so it keeps it on the cheap. Beer only gets consumed after a long day of fun while relaxing in the hot tub. But to each his/her own, do what you want!

We are looking for at least one other person, but up to 4 others, to fill the open beds. We had some late cancellations and would prefer to fill the spots vs cancelling or having that big house for just the 3 of us. The house sleeps 7 in their own beds, plus pullout couch if there is another person. HUGE garage/hanger to keep the bikes in with power/tunes/compressor/etc.

We'll be towing the bikes down from New England, but we welcome anyone from other parts of the country. At this point, we even have an open spot on a truck for a person and bike if someone from New England wants to hitch a ride. A reasonable expectation would be to split the gas cost, but I won't speak for the driver of the truck.

Cost for the house for the week is $1262 after all taxes and fees are included. We split it up evenly, nobody is making money off other riders here (except Ron of course, the owners of the house and owner of TailoftheDragon.com, great guy).

That being said, it works out to be about $250 each person for the entire week (saturday to saturday) if we get 5 people. If you can find a cheaper vacation that is also warm, dry, clean and comfortable, I'd love to hear it!

You'd be free and encouraged to ride with us, or go off on your own to explore. I'd be more than willing to share my knowledge of the area and the secret gems of roads with you if you go off without the group.

So, that's the general skinny of things. Feel free to PM me here, or email me at my username at gmail dot com if you have any questions.

I took my SV and my Wee last year and I rode the Wee more than the SV. It is just such an ideal bike for down there.....

Looks like you brought one bike and one trailer too many.

Have fun and remember to obey all municipal, county, state and federal traffic ordinances.............

Nah, SV is a blast on the tight stuff. Not as comfortable, but a bit more exciting. That and trailering down means a fresher me when we arrive and a lot less worry about mechanical issues.

I've never regretted having two bikes down there!

Our clubs rally is the weekend of 21st. It's Fri eve Sat and pack up Sunday at Willville MC campground Meadows of Dan, VA just off the parkway. You'd have a lot of fun except there are going to be 175 of us and most services will be taken. There is another campground up the road.

If I had the time I'd pick up in Va & follow you down, except the rally is taking up all of my leave time. I was at the Dragon in June and really had a good time. Made me a better rider.

Will be there but not sure if we want to spend the night in the same area for the week. We thought of migrating over to Natches Trace the later part of the week. We will see you down there. A black DL1000 and a black GS1200A both with MA tags. We ride down the 19 or 20th. C ya there!

If you guys wanted to stay at the house for a few nights then I'm sure we can work something out. Just let me know if you are interested, filling the beds half the week is better than none of the week!

I rode my first GS last year at the Gap. Now I'm spoiled and want that suspension. It was an adventure model too. Delicious.

The Natchez will be pretty tame to boring after the Smoky Mountains. I would ride Natchez first then Smokeys. Or save it for another trip and go to New Orleans. Just my opinion from having ridden both many times.

I am hoping for a trip down the the Smokeys myself during this time frame. I typically camp at Tsali at Fontana Lake, but if our times overlap I will stop in for a night or two if there is space available. I will not be able to commit to dates until closer to the time as work is crazy busy right now.

I will be on a Vee, so no clutch chudder talk please

No problem, not like we'd be able to talk over the sound of it anyways

So I did the math out.

If you guys (any of you 3) want to stop in for a night or more, it'll be $36 a night. Not bad compared to a hotel!
