Hello fellow riders,
Planning to buy soon a Vstrom 650, I would like to know whether 2018 model OEM left pannier will fit a (3/4-)jacket with back protector, elbows and shoulders pads.
To be clear, I'm talking about the black plastic OEM pannier (not the aluminium SW motech Suzuki rebranded).
If answer is yes, could you please provide your jacket size and model?
My point is beeing able to store "securely" helmet and jacket (Rev it excelibur or Sand 2 for instance). It will help me deciding between small or big topcase (to store both).
Thanks a lot for your help!
To help give you an idea of what might fit in what size top case, I have a 48L rectangular aluminum top case, model Kappa kve48a
My helmet is an XS Arai Vector 2. My jacket is the Icon Womens Raiden DKR Jacket, size L. I have never before tried to fit my jacket AND my helmet in the top case before, but did now. Please keep in mind, this is with one of the smallest full-face helmets, as it's an XS. But the jacket is bulky and has D30 in back, elbows, and shoulders (love that jacket! But that's for another post.)
First I put just the helmet in (note the tape measure in the background, to give you an idea of interior measurements. Interior length is @ 17 inches). Then, to try and fit both jacket and helmet, I put the jacket in first, unzipped, so the front of the jacket was facing up. I squished the sleeves and the "chest area" of the jacket to the sides of the box. Then I placed the helmet right on top of the inside of the jacket, and arranged the jacket sleeves/chest area around the helmet. It barely fit, and yes, I was able to (barely) close the lid.
Before I got my top box, I was worried it would look big on my DL650, but it does not at all. The 650 is a big bike (for me, at least). But if you want to fit both in a top box, this one is a tight squeeze. Perhaps a different shape top box would be different? That, or a bigger box if you want the aluminum ones. I thought the 58L was too big for me, but several people who do have that biggest size say it looks fine on their bike.
Hope that helps!
