Just bought ‘18 DL650 XT

Last night, picked up new bike and ride home. A bit scary ride. When got home, whew!

Different from my old cruiser. Taller and have more technology than ever. Shifting and power are different than cruiser. I am using it as a work commute. Maybe once in a while, gravel or dirt roads. Don’t think I’ll do the trails

Question: what is the first thing that I should know or add an accessory?

Congrats on the new bike - picked up an 18 myself after riding a Harley for years. You'll get used to it and like it more and more. First thing to get in my opinion is good riding gear - Then get to know the bike before you change or add anything (again my humble opinion).

What's the best way to remove this warning sticker from the gas tank?

A center stand is nice to have.
And a very loud horn for the commuter traffic.

GREAT commuter bike. Just the height alone makes a big difference.

Enjoy!

Might want to try to heat it up using a heat gun....

I think there are threads on here about that. Suggest trying a search...

I'd second the horn as well as additional lights up front to make yourself more visible. I removed the sticker and you have to be careful as it put up quite a fight to get the adhesive off. It took me quite a while to get off. Used Goo Gone, paint cleaners, blow dryer, paint polish. Be careful with it.

If you plan to ride over 60mph a lot then I would recommend the Givi Airflow as the very first upgrade. But see how the stock one works out for you, sticking with the advice from George, above.

My very first mods were height related as I am somewhat “vertically challenged” and I would do these immediately again.

Welcome to the forum and to DL650 ownership. I switched from a Sportster 883 (owned for 20 years) and have really come to appreciate the additional comfort and “modern-ness” (such as fuel injection in cold weather) of the V-Strom.
