2017 DL650+Headlight relays

So I've been reading up on the issue of headlight, (or is it starter switches) burning out on previous models due to high current flowing thru them. They apparently are not heavy enough to withstand the power draw. Do current models of 2017+ suffer this same malady? I've read of the various solutions that Eastern Beaver offers and quite frankly it's a lot to take in.

On a more pleasant note, farkles start arriving today.

I'm sure the newer(Single headlight) models would still benefit from a relay, but with half the draw(55W versus 110) problems are a lot less likely. After some problems I put the relay on my 05. Don't think I will on the 18 1000. LED's lower the risk also(Less draw).

As far as I can see EB is not offering a headlight relay kit for the V2 (single headlight) and the new 650.

Thanks. That website is not the easiest to comprehend. Everything is lumped together and seems to take for granted that everyone knows the ins and outs of the VStrom.

If you don't want to use an led headlight, then you could order the EB relay with the H4 plug and find a H4 to H7 adapter.

Put a LED bulb in to the H9 high beam and leave low beam alone.

Not perfect but a lot better than stock and no messing around.

Does the entire dashboard need to be removed to access the high beam bulb?

That is what I did. Haven't had a chance to do much riding with this setup but I think it will be a good option.

No. Nothing has to be removed.

What bulb is that? Are you the same Rollin' over on ADV that rode the Vic to Alaska?
