Thanks for the kind offer. I have decided to have Corbin make a custom one for me with reduced reach to the bars and ground. I am neither long of leg or arm! Seat is still available to some lucky forum inmate.

Saddlemen recently got back to me with:
"We have plans but don't currently have a date set. If you'd like, we can add you onto a waiting list for future R&D to be released "

If anyone's interested, I'll update the post when I hear something...

My buddy with a 2017 650 called Sargent and they said that a pan(Of their design) still hadn't happened. They will build on your pan for about $350. 2-4 week wait.

For my old '10 BMW R1200R, Sargent sold a foam/cover "kit". You shipped them your stock seat and they returned it with new foam and cover (along with your old foam/cover). It was magnificent. Most comfortable seat I've ever had. Not sure why they don't do that for more models.

Edit:

Well, this is exciting! They have an actual section for our bike now. It's empty, but it's a start!

I just called Sargent and they said it's looking like end of this year, if not next year, before they'll have a seat for the '17+ 650.

Sargent has been my go-to aftermarket seat for my last few bikes (including a 2013 650 V-Strom). Their pan is half the advantage... Much better pan than stock, and included a storage tube, and room for my Neaely tire kit... I wrote them the day after I bought the 2017 650 Strom, and they had no short term plans to do the 2017 (that was about 2 months ago, give or take).

Also called Russell Day Long (they'll do it -- send in your seat)
Wrote Mustang (they put me on a notification list for when they begin manufacture of a 2017 650 seat...

However, I'd rather wait for the Sargent... great seat... this is what the 2013 looked like from the bottom of the pan...

I've had a Sargent on my last 4 bikes so I'm a big fan, but when I asked them today what "later this year" means specifically, he said he wouldn't be surprised if that turned in to late next year, regarding availability.

Oh, and I considered getting a Russell "sport" seat, but they're booking now for October 1 production start, plus 2 weeks production, plus another week shipping to east coast. Ouch!

I'm hoping Sargent is just padding expectations... However, it wouldn't hurt if everyone reading this called/wrote Sargent independently, and let them know they've got a market waiting...

This is what I received back in early April when I inquired (it also has the phone and e-mail if anyone wants to add their voice):

Hello Barry

We do not make a seat for your V-STROM at this time, but I think it is very possible that we will in the future. Until then we can modify your seat in our Custom Seat Services Dept. You send us your seat with detailed information on what you are wanting to have done, we redo the seat and send it back to you. We can add our Super Cell Atomic Foam, and change the shape of the foam for more comfort. I will enclose a link to our CSS dept. Print out the order form, fill it out and send it in with your seat. There is a lot of information on this page, it may help you get exactly what you are looking for if you read over it. If you have any other questions, please email, or call us at 1-800-749-7328.
