buying a new wee

i just finished up a 19 day, 5500 mile ride on my2012 Goldwing. my wife does not 'love' the bike and does not share my love of bikes so i'm getting what "I" want--650 V. I've read for 3 days on this forum and adv forum and the 12 model 650 is what i want. I cannot deside between the adv and the standard. I do want and need hard boxes, a highway bar, and most probably a russel day long seat. Jessie bags are what i want but I need to price them out. Are after market goodies fitting the 2012 model or will i have to wait a year for them to catch up?

There is already a huge aftermarket parts availability for the new generation 650 V Strom. It has been out in Europe for a while longer than the states so that gave manufacturers a head start. Sales have been very good, and you can bet that is the reason the parts are available and will keep on coming!

Nothing wrong with starting with the Adventure model, especially if you are not handy installing accessories. On the other hand, starting with the standard model you get to pick the EXACT accessories you want. Sometimes you can get better quality for less money, or at least the color/design/size components you are after ( like the Jesse bags for instance ). The adventure has the "upgraded" windscreen but it doesn't seem like it is all that much better than stock. If you change it out, there goes money wasted for the factory installed shield.

I have been very satisfied with the new Wee II. Before I got it I assumed there was not that much difference between it and the older generation. The looks of the bodywork have grown on me, the handling is much better, fuel mileage is improved, and yet is still has the feel/fit of the V Strom that I like. Sometimes upgrading/improving a product is better than an all new design. Suzuki will be selling a LOT of these!

Everyone is different and I fully understand that fact so I can only speak for myself: A lot of the fun and excitement was in the wait for the new bike to arrive aat dealersships, I was like a kid at Christmas waiting for my Fox Oragne bike to hit the ground. That being said, I have enjoyed the shopping and waiting for UPS to show up almost as much when buying accessories. When I recieved an email form Richland Rick saying they were making my fork brace that week and I could expect it in a few days... Enjoy the experience, that is what a motorcycle is all about.

I concur with Realshelby as well, paying for a windscreen that still isn't right, for me (I'm too tall) of the factory lower fairing when, chances are, I'll buy an aluminum skid plate of much higher quality and serves the purpose in a more effect manner seems the better way.

Lastly, I love tinkering with this thing so you can develop that "bond", like a mother and her newborn child, (okay, maybe that is a bit much) when you actually install the parts and see the instant results. No one has "your" bike even if they are equipped equally because you did it!

On the other hand, some people hate that crap!

Just my thoughts...
Enjoy your ride and the total package experience to your needs, abilities and desires.

I know you from the Goldwing forum! I'm a few hours south of you.
I kept my Goldwing and bought a 2012 Wee. Call me crazy, but I like the Wee more than my Goldwing!!! they both have their function tho....

even though my wife like the Goldwing, she did not like it enough to do the rides and type of riding i plan on doing...mex and alaska. so i was going to buy a v strom in a couple years anyway. the goldwing did not do anything for me except for the tunes...the music i will miss. and the gl1800 forum was not a pleasant place to hang out like this one, advrider and a couple others.

You don't have to give up music. For example, I have a Garmin Zumo 550 GPS that has MP3 capability. That, coupled with earphones that provide audio as well as ambient noise reduction, provides a better atmosphere for long rides.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014-2016 DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012-2016 DL650s
See https://www.stromtrooper.com/general-...nicknames.html

Please vote in the poll on what Strom(s) you have at https://www.stromtrooper.com/informat...-you-have.html

I went from an 08 Wing to a couple of other machines ( st 1300, conny 14 )
to a 12 adv. Glee. Never been happier. I would check with Al (Jesse luggage). I do not think he has R&D'd a 2012 yet. But I agree his bags are probably the best on the road (IMO). But I am very happy with my Adventure. Enjoy it.

just give it a little gas, it will be ok !!!
