Question Should I upgrade from a 2009 wee to 2012 Adventure?

My only real complaint with my 09 wee, is the lack of low to mid range torque. My 09 is FULLY farkled! I've been considering getting the 2012 Adventure because I've "read" that the engine responsiveness at low and mid rpm is significantly better. But I don't trust motor journalists! It alsoseems to me that the new wee will offer LESS weather protection because of the smaller fairing.

Anybody spend a significant amount of time on both?

Thanks
keith

I would NOT say the engine is significantly better in the 2012 vs earlier models. Any improvement in low-mid range is minor ( but welcome ) and certainly not enough to consider trading over.

There are other improvements to the 2012 that I consider much more significant than the engine power band.

I had an 09 and now the 2012A. There is an improvement over the 09 as the engine response "feels" different. The engine has less vibration and you only hear a "click" when shifting gears. Both are a pleasure to ride so if I still had my 09 and it was all setup I would probably keep it unless I could get a good deal on a trade. The dealers here are eager to move product so it's a buyers market. One last thing, I honestly feel the 12 has better weather protection than the 09 and to my ears is quieter. YMMV.

The only reason I traded was because I just loved the look of the new bike. I can't really tell a big difference in the performance, perhaps I imagine more than there is because I heard they had it...
My buddy has an 04 with 24K miles and a staintuned exhaust that will stay side by side, maybe even pull me a hair, with my 2012.

Did I mention that there is not a better looking bike than a fox orange 2012.

Having done the deal, if I had it to do over based strickly on performance, I would keep my old bike and my cash.

Based on looks, I would trade tomorrow, ride what you love! It's only cash and we can make more.

The looks of my 09 never bothered me. Sure wish the 650 Adventure came in ANYTHING else but All Black! Still no cruise control, ABS can't be turned off, and still the same whimpy alternator, WTF? I'm not entierly sure what Suzuki has fixed or improved here other than a cosmetic change.

Am I missing something?

If you are happy with your bike...

If you are happy with your current bike the why bother. Take some $$$$ and go on a nice long bike trip. You will remember that the rest of your life. Bikes come and go...memories last forever!

Reports are that this being the very latest generation of ABS technology, those that have reviewed it and ridden it in the dirt said it is so accurate and unobtrusive that they never once felt the need to disable it!

No

The 2012 model is better, and I did sell a K6 (with around 120,000km on it).

However, my bike was due for replacement in the next year anyway. If the L2 hadn't turned up I would have looked more seriously at the S10 or Tiger 800's so it was enough better to sell me there - but had my K6 had < 100,000k's on it I would have kept it longer.

So yes, I did make the switch- not "just because", yeah it's a nicer bike, particularly off the seal, but it's not like a night and day difference.

The engine is nicer, and I certainly notice it's better two up, but it hasn't been quietly bored out to 1000cc's, it just makes slightly easier work loaded up, a bit more torque at lower rpm and better engine management so throttle response is a lot nicer.

And IMHO, the L2 ABS is fine on dirt. Doesn't magically make you a better rider or the bike weigh 100kg's less, but it has stopped one or both ends of the bike from sliding when it would have been awkward.

Pete
