2012 bike feels tight

What I mean is that it doesn't feel as freewheeling as my 05 or 07. It's most noticeable at 5500rpm and higher.

Anyone else feeling this? Not that it's a bad thing, just wondering why.

What gear? Clutch lever in or out?

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014-2016 DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012-2016 DL650s

6th gear, in gear, clutch lever not pulled. When the guys go up a tooth on the counter sprocket, this is the feeling they're trying to get rid of, like it's wound up.

I have no plans to change gearing, and nothing is wrong, it just feels different than the older version, which I am still riding.

Just wondering if anybody else notices.

Are you talking about at steady throttle or chopping the throttle to let it coast?

Steady. It's that feeling you want to up shift one more gear.

I think it's that it is so quiet. It feels restrained by comparison. I often find myself one gear lower than on the K7 for the same speeds.

Canadian Models with 7 speed gearbox

I was fortunate to get one of the 7 speed models in canada, it's a bit stiff going from 6th to 7th but once you get a feel for it quite good.

Ha Ha, for the first few weeks I was trying to shift into 7th, as it seemed like I still had one more gear left in there somewhere.
Makes me feel like a rookie everytime I did it, which was all the time when I was on the highway.

I'm loving it now and the gear box is so smooth when I get it right.

I run my bike at 80 -85 and don't often feel the need for 6th gear!
