Russell Day Long

Am seriously considering the Russell day long seat and would very much like to hear from anyone w a 2012 Wee who has a Russell seat. I am interested in any and all opinions regarding these seats since they are quite pricey. Thanks to all who respond. Phil

I just sold the Russell I had for my '07 since it does not fit the 2012. Hated like hell to see it go. The only caution I have for you is that the seat height will be raised about an inch and a half, but it will settle after a couple thousand miles.

Go for it.

I don't have it on the Strom but I have one on my R1100RT. Its the best seat I've ever sat on.
I've had most of my seats redone by Rick Mayer and they're very good (and much cheaper than the Russell) but the Russell has a definite comfort edge.

If you're thinking about it, just do it. You won't be disappointed. They are no beauty queens, but your backside will thank you forever.

Hi,
I had the EXACT opposite with Russell vs Rick Mayer.. HATED the Russell. Rick now has my 2012 Wee seat for my third saddle. One on my st1100 and one on my ST1300. Butt bliss....

The Russell locked my legs in one position and jammed my nuts into the tank. Sent it back for a re-do and no improvement.. Sold it for what I paid of it..

Daddy Mayer devised a spring in the seat for comfort like a couch. Wide wings like a horse saddle or tractor. His son's, Rick and Rocky take their fathers idea to the next level with the new foam's that are out now. Rick told me that for the "2x petite" rider the Russell is still better than foam.. More support. Problem is the spring is attached to a piece of plywood that lifts you up a bit...

Thanks for the reply Mitch. Yours is the only negative review I have seen and am wondering what your ht and wt are and if those had anything to do with your not liking the Russell. Thanks again. Phil

I'm on the way home from a 4,000 mile jaunt around the Great Lakes. With another seat my posterior would be in pain at this point. With the Russell on my Vee, I could easily do another 4,000.

I used to think that my first accessory on a new bike would be windshield or saddlebags. Now I know it will be a Russell.

which seat?

am riding the corbin on my '05 wee

it is a bit on the firm side, after several days, in a row

had a russell on my old r1100gs

it changed that bike from a 225 mile/day ride to a 550+ mile/day comfortable ride

the increase in seat height, w/ the russell, was an issue

and that's a major reason i'm riding a wee, now

shiny side up

Everyone crashes. Some get back on. Some don't. Some can't.

There is no shiny side on a well-ridden vstrom.
