Crush washer on Oil drain plug

This one probably for Greywolf....I notice that the oil drain bolt has a 'crush' type washer on it when removed. It seems almost impossible to actually remove it off the bolt.

Are these supposed to be replaced every service or should it be re-used? It doesn't say anything about replacing it in the owner's manual.

In theory, they are supposed to be replaced every use. In practice, they can often be used a dozen times or more. A knife blade will help pry it off.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.

I found out from another thread here, that I have been putting it on upside down after all these years, and mine is always hard to get off, it threads itself, into the threads in the plug. It always seemed to me that the narrow top part of the cone should be facing up to match the countersink in the bottom of the engine, but supposedly this is wrong, I am going to try turning it around next time narrow part down towards the plug.

It isn't really a right/wrong thing. You're probably right about the intent. I just found the thing won't burrow in if the wide part faces the sump.
