Question Back out on the "deal"?

HI All,

I put down a down payment on a 2012 standard on April 2. The bike was supposed to be in the first week in May. It's now over two months since I made the down payment and don't have a firm delivery date.

The dealer said Saturday that the bike was in country and off the ship...thru customs. I'm not sure that's the truth. He has agreed to return my down payment if I want out of the deal.

With spring gone and no set delivery date, I'm wondering if I should back out and just wait for the 2013's....and maybe actually a color I like! Don't really expect many answers to this...just thinking.....wondering what others would do.

I have another bike to ride, so I could wait for the 2013's and maybe the prices would even come down when demand comes down....

Take Care,
ROB Ray

I'd wait on the 2012, but I'm not you.

If I had another bike I enjoyed riding and lived in a place where my riding season was limited, I would wait for the 2013. Just because I don't like buying the first year of a new style bike. But again that is just me...

One strategy would be to go to the dealership's Sales Manager's office and tell him you're going to hold your breath until the bike arrives. If that doesn't work, throw yourself on the floor, kick your feet and pound your hands on the floor, and cry until the bike arrives. If that doesn't work, yell at the Sales Manager: "I HATE YOU, I HATE YOU, I HATE YOU!" and then run out the door. Then come back in and say: "I didn't ask to be born."

It's worked a few times at the Harley dealership.

Go hakafugu yourself.

back out on the deal??

Depending on how much you put down, I would tell the dealer that when the bike comes in you want the option of purchasing it or not. If it comes in soon you may still want it, but if it doesn't come 'til September you can wait for next years.

been there

I can tell you what I did. I bought a used bike of the same make a model. Rode it for 3 years then upgraded to the 2012 DL650. Cost of the bike (not including maintenance) was only $1200.

There are two dealers within minutes of me that have the 2012 standard and adventures in stock. I'm located about 4.5 hours south of you on nice twisty back country roads.

You could drive down Saturday morning, and be riding a new one back and be home before 5pm. Granted, you'd have to convince someone to drive you down here.

What ever happened to dealer transfers? The dealers down in my area will find a bike and transfer it from another dealer.

The dealer can't get it from American Suzuki any faster than they'll send it to him. Another dealer might not want to let go of one he has as a dealer swap due to the short supply.

"Older people who are reasonable, good-tempered, and gracious will bear aging well. Those who are mean-spirited and irritable will be unhappy at every period of their lives.

"Let each of use properly whatever strengths he has and strive to use them well. If he does this, he will never find himself lacking."

I hope they don't come out with a sweet red color wee in 2013...

Or bump it up to a 750, or put wire wheels on it, or put RMX forks on it, etc...

2012 Suzuki DL650AL2, over 45k miles already!
