I buy them on brands that don't have a good reputation for reliability , such as buell...

I don't think it's worth it on suzuki, honda, et cetera

If something is gonna go wrong its gonna be in the first year. Vstroms have such a good rep for reliability I would negate the ext warrenty...

for the average rider I agree

I've never purchased an extended warranty, but now, I wish I had. If you are an extreme rider, and venture out in extreme conditions, the extended warrany can become very valuable

right now, cause I didn't get an extended warranty, I'm looking at a $3500-$4000 repair bill. My V-strom got cancer, it spread from the wire harness to the ECU and several sensors, not in first year, but in the 5th year with 70k miles, motor still runs strong when the sensors are communicating with the ECU

O wow that really sucks. I put about 10k mi a year on my bikes and never usually keep them much past that... I move on to a new one... my Wee2 will be the first I plan on keeping for a while. With 70k you can say you got well worth your investment back. Is it just pcm issues or total wiring and sensors too?

cancer from riding in winter road salt, been cleaned up, dielectric grease on all connections a year ago, this is second time, doesn't look good, several ECU pins are real bad ECU alone is $1200 retail, close to $1k even with my substantial discount, on average, I spend $2k-$3k/ year in just routine maintenance

I purchased the extended warranty. $600. for 5 years. It also covers towing to any Suzuki dealer in the country.
