'12 v-strom 650 oil filters.....

I'm going to buy, today, a new 650 v-strom. I would appreciate any insight(s) that you might share regarding oil filters. Obviously, one wants to purchase the best quality one can find.
Thanks for your help.

Stick with Suzuki.

WIX (including the NAPA label) makes one, and HifloFiltro makes one with their label and another in a different color with the K&N label. Purolator puts their label on a Chinese filter. I think all are good to OK, but no one knows if these are better than Suzuki's. In any case, what's your goal? Any of these filters will help keep the engine running well over 100,000 miles.

See Motorcycle Oil and Filters on oil filters. Bales has adapters for Suzukis to use the filters recommended at the site. Bales Technical Service Oil Filter Adaptor
The standard Suzuki oil filter adapter listed there fits all 2002-2011 V-Stroms and 2012 DL1000s. The Burgman adapter fits 2012 DL650s.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014-2016 DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012-2016 DL650s

See https://www.stromtrooper.com/v-strom-...thread-56.html

That is the only thread in the forum oil discussions are allowed.

And they have been for years. So are the Purolators with the recommended rating. If you want to go with a better filter, get the Bales adapter. At least one DL1000 has gone over 200,000 miles on much derided Fram filters.

So you need the Bales Adapter if you go with anything but Suzuki? or just anything else that is not specifically for the V-Strom?

Suzuki bikes have the odd 1mm pitch filter thread. The filters I listed all fit that thread. The Bales adapters have the more standard 1.5mm thread for more highly recommended filters. See http://motorcycleinfo.calsci.com/Con...tml#OilFilters

Got it, thanks!
Very familiar with that site from my old ST1300 days.
