Frustration.... Why suzuki does that?

I was convinced on buying a used DL1000, then I saw the reviews and the design of the latest DL650, and it teased me.
So I was just wishing to go to the dealer with my Honda Shadow and trade in, taking the advantage of the Suzuki special going on, which is almost US$1,000.00 discount.
However, I just would like to see the new DL650 for real, seat on that, take a leap and make a firm decision.

Well, my local dealer only told me he has a few "deposits" for the new model, and they may not get the new model until April... when the Suzuki deal will be gone.
This is my frustration, I guess, if I can not get the deal, my choice will be a pre owned DL1000.

I would like to understand how some people in this forum already have that? What are the dealers locations where we have better chance of success of getting one of these?
It seems cycle trader and ebay are offering bikes that are not yet available.... total frustration for us and for the dealers that Suzuki is not being able to keep up with demand.

Thanks

You can make the short drive to Iowa -- my dealer told me he could get one for me and 10 days later suzuki dropped one off at his door. I am picking it up this week.

I would recommend you email or call every dealer within 200 miles of you and see who would be willing to call their suzuki rep and get one shipped to them.
Make sure you tell them you are ready to buy right now and are not just kicking the tires. Some of the dealers wanted a deposit but the one I went with did not.

my deal was 7900 otd plus TTL

I am not sure about this but I wonder if suzuki would be more willing to ship a model to a dealer that has not sold one yet. Does that make sense??

on a side note-- I once drove from the middle of Iowa to ohio for a camper. It was a little tedious but do able.

I have found that not all dealers are created equal. Keep in mind I come from the Harley world where all dealers think that they are Gods gift to the world and are doing you a a favor by selling you a bike. I have a local Suzuki dealer with very limited space. They are very nice and accommodating, but they were higher in price than what I was looking for (I ended up buying my 2012 for less than what they were offering out the door for a 2011). I found a "super" dealer about 2 hours away and made my purchase there. They are a large dealership that moves a ton of bikes. They don't charge extraneous charges like freight and setup etc. They have the philosophy of moving a lot of bikes at a modest profit as opposed to a few bikes at a significant profit. I would send emails out to all the dealers within your comfort range of travel and ask them for a quote that is "out the door" and go from there. Good luck!

PS- By out the door I mean taxes, tags, registration, licensing, cool stickers, the whole shabang! Out the door means out the door....

The way things were looking, I realized I probably would not see a new one (that wasn't presold) unless I put a deposit down to get it to the dealer. So that's what I did. Cost me $500.
But once the bike got to the dealer, it was mine, whether I wanted it or not after seeing it. I figured I'd rather lose my $500 deposit, than make an $8000 mistake in the long run.

The bike came in...I checked it out...and with 0% financing...it was a No-Brainer!! I pick it up within the week.

The enviroment seems to be much differnet here in Iowa.

Most of the dealers do not require a deposit. They are happy to get order you a bike. no deposit required.

1 dealership in iowa that I called had a waiting list and one wanted a deposit. The rest seemed like once I was sure I wanted one they would order it for me.

Maybe it is a dealership mentality more then a big shortage thing.

I went through the same BS. Closest dealer wanted a firm $8299 plus TTL. Next closest dealer just woulnd't tell me anything. So I had to go an hour or so away for the right deal.

2012 Suzuki DL650AL2, over 45k miles already!

I went through the same problems last year with my 2011... the first dealer had me "wait" for a few months with no success... "It is coming" was his answer.
I ended up driving out of state to pick one up.

Be Safe!

That goes to show you.. This problem some of you are having is a dealer issue. It is how they are choosing to do business.

Isnt great to be able to have choices..

Imagine if the govenment was in charge of selling vstroms to us.

I would want want one in Olive Drab -- it would cost 128,000.00
