2012 has more "soul"?

Still thinking about buying a DL2. The no.1 complaint about the Wee is that it has "no soul". It's a great bike, but it's not an exciting bike (it's also been my experience with it... Happy to take it for a ride, but never happy + excited).

Is the new engine on the 2012 a little more exciting? Has the Wee gained a little "soul" in it's new version? Thanks again for sharing.

You only heard that kind of talk around here from one protagonist, who finally packed it in for lack of support.

Whenever "soul" or "character" is used in the same sentence as "Japanese" it is always preceded by"no". Especially the better the bike, the more likely it is to be described in that way by Euro bike riders.

bikes only have soul when they get miles on them. until then they're just machines. a v-strom with 70K on it has more soul than an MV that stays parked in the garage IMHO...

Definately agree with that! Once a bike gets some miles under its wheels, picks up a scratch, graze or scar and acquires that 'world-weary' look it has more character.
My Wee is starting to get that way, especially after last night when I dropped it in the garage

One way to give a bike soul is to baptize it. Ask Black Lab how. :biggrinjester:

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014-2016 DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012-2016 DL650s

I need to practice getting it off the swingarm stand by myself. It was close, so very close to denting the wife's new Subaru.

2nd post and just bought a 2011. Having a background in the dirt and commuting on dual sports when I was younger this bike spoke to me. While I wanted a road bike something about this bike spoke to me as far as my soul. So far it is living up to expectations.

Saying that a bike has "soul" is a tired motorcycle journalist catchphrase used when you lack the vocabulary or intelligence to accurately describe what it is you like or don't like about a bike.
