If you ride offroad....at all.. I would personally recommend sticking with the OEM filter. For strictly road use, you'll probably be OK with whatever...until you aren't.. or something like that..

OEM. Put it in and forget it for the next xxxxxx miles. It's not really easily accessible

"Out of curiosity, why do you say this?"

Maybe he is like me and gives it a blast of compressed air every season or two. i put a bit of window screen over the inlet and haven't had the bug and debris collection that I had when I got the bike.
i change the air filter in my 4Runner when the mice eat a hole in it. Some things like air and oil filters work better when they have a bit of use.

K&N, BMC, and any other oiled gauze filters might give slightly better airflow as long as they aren't over-oiled so theoretically they could produce marginally more horsepower on a stock motor. The real advantage is that they can be cleaned, reoiled, and reused which could save you money in the long run. BUT. If you ride anywhere with significant fine dust or silt in the air you are probably better served with the OEM filter.

IMHO and YMMV should probably be applied to this answer...

Personally, I would just go with the OEM and be done with it. It's not something that's done very often, so if there's any cost difference, it's not much when you spread it out over time. Some folks like the oiled filters such as KN. Those are fine too if that's your thing, but it just adds time to the process because they have to be cleaned, allowed to dry, then oiled again.

The air filter I try and avoid is the OverthinkingIt Air Filter.

I would get the OverthinkingIt Air Filter only if I was using OverthinkingIt Oil.

To tell you the truth, I really haven't thought about it all that much...
