I can't depress my rear brake pedal. I had the bike towed to the dealer and they said I need a hydraulic assembly unit 55610-11j01. The they said they could not order it, and it would have cost $1900 for the part and $400 for the installation! Is it worth it to save my beloved V-Strom 650a? I found one on Ebay but it still costs over $1900, and it would take a month to ship it to me. Any ideas where I could get a good used unit? Thanks, bros.
Hi Folks! Sorry about the short story but wanted to give details. I can't say my situation would pertain to anyone else but I found this thread helpful when my rear brake pedal became immovable after changing the brake fluid. Mine is a 2012 650. Yes, I went WAY too long on that fluid. After the change, the both the front and rear brakes felt normal but, the rear abs would not kick in and the tire would just slide. I kept trying to trigger the abs a handful of times but it never would so I just went home.
A couple of days later, decided to try again; same deal. But, on the way home the pedal became locked. I kept trying and found that I could get it to move with firm, constant pressure. So, I went home and bled the rear brake a little more. The pedal felt the same but would eventually move with steady pressure. Topped off the reservoir to just under the upper line and went for a ride. Kept trying constant pressure on the brake while going around an empty parking lot. I felt like I was going to break the lever with the weight I was using on it but, after holding the pressure for 3-5 seconds, the pedal would SLOWLY move and the brake would stop me. I did this cycle (hehehe... couldn't resist) several times and almost gave up on it. Then it started to get easier and could eventually use the rear brake normally and the abs would even kick in if i kept pressing to try to make the rear slide. I did this a few more times on the way home, checked the level and it had dropped to maybe 1/8 inch above the lower line. So, I refilled it and left it at that, for now. Guessing I either dislodged some blockage, or I popped a hydraulic line somewhere. Will have to look for that while it's raining this weekend. But, the abs is working... for now.
Yeah, you may have dodged a bullet. Lack of fluid changes will allow water to collect in the system, eventually find its way into the ABS controller and corrode a valve or piston. That's usually curtains for the unit.
Guys, I'm having some issues with my ABS system (flash lights out, error code 35). My bike is in the workshop right now where is being checked for electric problems so there is still a hope. But if it occurs that there is no electric issues there i will need to find a replacement for an abs...

you can replace Suzuki ABS pump with pump from other bikes (ex. ER6).
