Extended cables for raised bars - How long?

I need to put longer throttle and clutch cables on my '12 DL650. The PO put on GenMar 1" up 1" back bar risers as well as an Adventuretech Auxiliary Shelf without putting on extended throttle or clutch cables. Because of this the throttle cables were pinching the ignition switch cable where they both ran around the frame on the right side and caused the ignition switch wiring insulation to rub completely through and short out, leaving me stranded 3 hours from home while bringing it home from purchase

So, am going to get extended cables from MotionPro but am wondering how much extension I need? 2"?
Suggestions?

Never had bar risers but most with them find they need to re-route cables, wiring etc.
Can you move them to under the ignition wiring or find a better route?

What about moving the cables behind the tree? I put 2 Rox risers on my Wee with Pro Taper EVO Adventure High bars and I only had to get the brake hose extension. I moved all the other cables and wires behind the tree and it all worked great.
