Hi, I'm trying to install my new Givi windscreen in the middle position out of the three. I'll need to lower the rubber mounting nut one position down. Can it be pulled out from the outside? Thanks.
Yeah it's a little like a grommet. It's a tight fit and requires some coaxing, but will come out. I did what you're doing without having to resort to using tools or anything to damage the rubber.
After you remove the windshield, put the screw back in the grommet a few turns. Gently push the screw to lengthen the grommet (to make it narrower). Then take the screw out and pull the grommet out using the rubber flange.
Whatever you do... don't let the little buggers squirrel back through the hole and fall down behind the fairing. A similar mistake resulted in delaying a martini over an hour.
Trick I have used that works well...
After removing the bolt, and before attempting to remove the rubber grommet/nut, run a thin gauge wire through the grommet and feed the end of the wire down through the fairing and out the bottom. This way if the grommet accidentally does get pushed into the fairing (instead of out the front) it will fall down along the wire and you can easily retrieve it at the bottom of the wire
