First Mechanical Problem . . . Solved

I had my first mechanical issue with my '14 Adventure (not counting harmonic crash bar vibration, which I mitigated per advice from this forum - thanks!).

I had a sudden severe vibration from the top case (Suzuki branded Trax, purchased with bike). Upon inspection, nut to front left bolt securing metal adapter plate to factory rack decided to make a break for freedom. Solution: stop at Home Depot, procure flange nut, secure same.

Not so easy. It's impossible to place the nut under the hole with your fingers --not enough room. Revised solution: secure nut to flat side of pocket knife blade with a piece of chewing gum, slide into place under hole and thread bolt. It's possible to hold or jam the nut sufficiently with the toolkit wrench to tighten the bolt.

Just in case it happens to you!

You can put the nut in an open end wrench and tape the nut to the bottom of the wrench with a single, short piece of tape. When tight, lower the wrench to release the nut and the tape will come out with the wrench.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014-2016 DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012-2016 DL650s

The chewing gum fix would only work if the wife was with me
Really I wouldn't have thought of that!
