Suzuki Diagnostic System Tool Alternatives - SDS tool - DL650 2012+

Hey All,

I'm looking to perform a TBS on my 2012 DL650. I've seen some threads on this for the 2011 and earlier models but I wanted to find out if there's any update for the new engine. I'm not looking for a work around, I'm actually planning on buying the tool but I'd prefer to save money if I can...

It seems you can get a proper SDS tool for around 230$

I've also found another questionable tool for around 164$

And an even more questionable tool for less than 100$

Does anybody have experience with any of these tools?

The TBS procedure on the 650 is unchanged since 2007. The Suzuki SDS tool is only supposed to be sold to dealers and licensed bike shops. I use the HealTech OBD tool. The TBS procedure only affects the idle air screws so it isn't very important on a 2007 and up 650 unless the engine runs rough at 3000rpm. I had it done on my 2007 and it was one inch of Hg off. The only difference I felt was the engine ran well down to 2500rpm instead of the 2900rpm it needed before. I don't run under 3000rpm so it didn't make much difference. There is a procedure that gets the TBS close enough to be valid that doesn't need an electronic aid. Throttle Body Sync for DL650(A)K7, A How To

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014-2016 DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012-2016 DL650s

This is all true even for the 2012+ models (with gladius engine)?

I remember when the SDS tool was $695.00 and the software was another $140.00! hmy:

I'm going to avoid buying it at all costs.

Yes. The affected systems are the same.

Did you have a chance to check if your TBs/cylinders are actually that far apart to justify the synchronization? I do not even know what is the spec on this... Anyone?

For what it's worth... I bought a Chinese version of the Mercedes Star Diagnostic system,
(by the way that is a big fancy name for some very basic software).

The Chinese hardware and software work perfectly and cost me $ 80. That is about 1 1/10 of what stealerships charge here in Cali just to plug the star system in and readout the codes etc etc.

Can you please elaborate what is "Mercedes Star Diagnostic system"?

If works just like the Suzuki where did you get this?

Did it come complete all hardware, cables, software?
