side fairing removal

have any of you removed the side fairing panel, the plastic piece that is in front of, above and below the fuel tank covers? I have removed every fastener I can find ,and it won't budge on the front part. I have cracked it and have the replacement piece, so I can look at it and see where all the hooks, loops ,etc. are located....but, it just wont give. As always, I am worried about forcing anything, for fear of more damage. Any ideas would sure be appreciated!

Yes, several times.

Remove all the side panels, that small one behind the steering stem and the two bolts tucked in low down behind the radiator.

Unplug the wiring (left hand side), undo the bolts on the steering stem and pull the whole nose forward and off.

Pick up the little rubber caps that fell off and glue them in place now so the glue has time to dry.

Separating it completely, no, but it should be a lot easier off the bike.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.

thanks for the reply Pete. Will look into this further. Thanks GW, I have no problem getting the tank side covers off, guess I didn't realize that the tank lift would also "release" the fairing extension completely for replacement...
