Winter storage battery charging

I have this charger> http://www.amazon.com/Deltran-Batter...ender+chargers <& I don't leave it connected all the time. My bike is out doors under the deck awning where I leave it uncovered. That area is pretty free from the wet stuff but not totally so I only hook up the charger when I know it will be dry for a few days. Say once every few weeks. Is that OK to maintain my battery or should I pull the battery & leave it indoors hooked up all the time. I'm needing for some advice please guys.

Topping it off every few weeks is fine.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014-2016 DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012-2016 DL650s

probably not a big help for you but maybe to someone else. i use one of these:
1.5 Watt Solar Battery Charger

i throw the charger and battery on the dash of my RV and it does a nice job of keeping a full charge on it over the winter

If you are really worried, just pull the battery, it's not that difficult. Or, get a long cord (someone makes a 25' with the ends that will work) and leave the battery in the bike.
I leave my battery in/on my bike (southern nh) all winter, although about once a month (hopefully more) I get out on it, with no issues with cranking power. The only time the battery ran down was when I locked my handlebars and turned key one turn to far and the rear light ran it down.

Someone will be along and say that while it might keep your battery charged, it'll kill the inside of the engine with all the moisture that'll build up, and won't get evaporated away, and repeat

I remove my battery and leave it on a wood shelf in my unheated garage for the winter. I don't put any battery charger/tender on it. Charge it up and start the bike in April/May.
