I got one! Thanks to you!

After you guys helped convince me that a DL650 was the right choice, I found one and bought it. I'm in NE Pennsylvania, drove all the way to WV for what I think was a hell of a deal. It's a '13 w/ 3700 miles but never titled. It was a demo. You would never know it to look at it, still looks brand new. This bike has heated grips, hand guards, Adventure wind screen, engine cowl, chain guard, tank protector, trunk, side pannier racks, and center stand. I got it for $6800 plus tax/title and a $50 fee from the dealer. I sat on one just like it last week, only w/out any accessories and no miles, and that dealer wanted $8000.
Anyway, I've only ridden it about 15 miles but I love it already! Going from a Vstar 1100 to this is like going from walking in mud to jumping on a trampoline! It is the epitome of fun. As you can tell I'm a bit excited about my new purchase. Thanks to those of you who recommended this bike to me.
Now if I could only sell my Vstar...

I also went from a V-Star (650) to a V-Strom (also 650) back in 2010. No regrets!

When I was selling my V-Star I found that the number of cruiser bikes being sold was about 30 to 1 as compared to the number of adventure bikes. Good luck with your sale and if you sell price has to drop, don't let a few hundred bucks sour you. You will forget about it soon enough riding around on you new bike.

Must say congratulations, you got a great deal. I paid the same amount for a 2013 not adventure. Enjoy your new bike.

Congrats of the new ride! My DL 650, a '13 model is only about a month old with 800 miles on it but I am enjoying this bike to the max. From what it sounds like you did get a very nice deal, considering all the extras it came with.

Now, since there isn't much you can add to it there's no reason NOT to go out there and start piling on the miles.

Thanks, tvdoorknob, I did drop the price on the Vstar considerably. But it's gone and the Strom is happily in it's new parking spot, (in my basement). REALLY enjoying the Vstrom!! What an awesome bike!
