akrapovic exhaust questions

I am wanting to upgrade my exhaust and like the akrapovic.

Their website says that you need part number: S-S65SO3-RC

It says that S-S65S02-RC is for 2007-2011.

When I contacted a couple sellers they tell me that

"S-S65SO3-RC has been discontinued and is replaced by S-S65SO2-RC"

When I point them to the website they say their akrapovic catalog says to use S-S65SO2-RC for a 2012+ vstrom.

Anyone have any idea what the deal is with this? I assume that the S-S65SO2-RC is the same deal as the two brothers which uses the 2007-2011 model and the exhaust will be too long and stick out too far behind the bike?

This isnt a cheap purchase so I want to make sure I get it right.

Thanks

The correct part for 2012+ is S-S65SO3-RC. Its been reported in a past thread that S-S65SO2-RC makes contact with the brake caliper on 2012+ stroms. I'm waiting (im)patiently for mine, apparently distributers are waiting on a shipment from akrapovic

Ah ok, I guess that explains why they gave me the bullshit story that it's discontinued because its on back order and they cant get it. Crossing this vendor off my list of vendors to ever use.

Make sure you order and receive part # S-S65SO3-RC

This is for 2012+ DL650

Initially when the bike was released Akrapovic stated the older exhaust (S-S65S02-RC) would also fit the new bike.

But soon new owners reported that the exhaust was hitting the rear caliper:

Luckily I waited and got the new version so avoided the same issue, which Akrapovic did correct by offering replacements.

Very happy with mine, see more here:

Thanks man, it seems the model for the 2012+ is out of stock every where, seems they are all waiting on orders to be filled from Akrapovic. I guess I will just wait.

What is the price they are asking for Acrapovič exhaust system? Are you planing to mount them your self or let the service do it for you?

the 2011 model can be had for around $550-$600 however I believe the 2012+ model is more like $800-$850 for some unknown reason. I dont see any reason why one should cost more than the other.

I plan on getting it installed by a mechanic most likely but will make the final decision when I get the exhaust and see how complicated it looks. If it can be done with a torque wrench alone then I might give it a try.

I am also curious if the other guys got theirs installed professionally or not.

Amazon's got a good price

I tried to copy the link but it was just too many characters. I went to Amazon and typed in aftermarket parts for a 2012 DL650. This came up:

Akrapovic Slip-On - Hexagonal Carbon Fiber Muffler , Material: Carbon Fiber S-S65SO2-RC
by Akrapovic
