Retrofitting Euro spec transponder key onto USDM Glee?

According to the wikipedia entry on the DL650, the European spec V-Strom has a transponder chip in the key head:

(last line)

How hard would it be to retrofit this onto a USDM bike?

I've just been doing a little reading and I've gotten paranoid:
IAMA Request: A motorcycle thief. : motorcycles
EX Thief & "chop-shop" operator AMA : motorcycles

2012 DL650 Adventure - Black
OEM Hand guards, OEM Heated grips, Stroma Center Stand and Shifter, SV Racing Frame and Swingarm sliders, Eastern Beaver power distribution, Skene Visibility Lights

That would be high in cost and difficulty and low in effectiveness compared to other theft prevention methods. One good thing about V-Stroms is they have a very low theft rate. Sport bikes and cruisers, especially Harleys, are the common targets for street bikes. Light weight dirt bikes are often targets of opportunity.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014-2016 DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012-2016 DL650s

Please vote in the poll on what Strom(s) you have at
