Lowered/Handling??

Would like to lower. Concerned about effects for handling the twisties. Better, worse or the same?

Lower both ends the same amount and you have a lower c/g but less cornering clearance. Lean you body into turns, especially if pegs hit the ground.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.

Quick answer is worse. Less ground clearance results in a reduced lean angle. Yes you can move your butt over on the seat ( so half of your butt ) is off the seat and this changes the center of gravity but you really should practice this on a track to get the hang of it safely.

If you don't have some inseam problem or something like that then I would leave the stock height alone.

when I had my 2005 dl650, it came to me with the forks slid up about 10mm in the trees and with a lowering link.

I took the lowering link out and put the stockers back in, left the forks slid up in the trees, handled great.

have not done ANYTHING to my 2012, haven't even adjusted the bars, but I don't think it needs to handle any better.

if youre not inseam challenged. id leave it.

How much do you need to lower it? Start by cutting down the seat.

Nah, do it!

My 2012 is lowered 3/4 of an inch, front and rear.
Lowered, I like everything about the bike more.
Admittedly, I don't ride the VStrom like a CBR600RR, but I haven't dragged the pegs yet in 12000 miles. In fact, I'm not sure I'd want to get that far over with the tires I'm running.

Depends on how you ride, I suppose.

As long as you lower the front the same or more than the rear it won't cause any handling issues.

Lowering the seat is a good option too, check out Spencer at Page 1 he is really quick and does good work.

Apparently, from the responses given, the bike feels and still performs as a stock height bike does. No different characteristics in the curves, not any quicker to lean, not any more slower to lean. The only negative issue is the pegs will make contact sooner in the lean.

right??

I think I will put foam pads on the bottom of pegs and see just where and when the pegs make contact for my normal style of riding the curves.
