Bearly missed

I hit a black bear on my 6 day old Vstrom tonight. It charged across the road and the head whacked my left boot. Due to the wide beam the excellent lights cast, I noticed something which looked like the "black cloud" in an old Star Trek show which consumed all light. It appeared to move and then when it charged across the road I realized it was a bear. A millisecond later boot met head. No blood or hair on my boot, but I imagine the bear has quite a headache. I guess it may have been affected by the full moon. :mod_biggrin:

So, I assume you are OK and were able to keep the bike upright? I hope so because it sounds like you would have one pissed off bear.

I had a similar experience a few years ago when I clipped a deer. That was scary. But a bear...now that's a different story.

The deer that killed my 800ST BMW was big enough. I did see a big ol' bear a couple months ago charge across the highway. I don't wanna hit anything that big going that fast. That woulda been just ugly. Did you foot or ankle suffer any discomfort?

Bucket list updated: "kick a bear in the head while seated on a moving motorcycle."

Congratulations on entering what must be a very, very, small club.

Glad you're okay. My biggest fear is hitting a large animal. I've hit cats, squirrels, rabbits, quail, buzzards and come close to hitting a big dog and a deer. There's not much you can do to prevent it.

Kicked bear in the head an lived ... not a story many people get to tell, that's for sure!

As for a club, besides the founding member ie Chuck Norris, you make ... two.

Foot hurt significantly on initial impact, but only a little this morning. I just bought new heavy duty insulated hiking boots which double as motorcycle boots. They're pretty stiff and I'm sure that helped a lot. If I was wearing sneakers I'd probably have some broken bones.

Where's the decals of the animals we've had contact with?
One bear head with stars floating around it!
Some idiot in the paper was bemoaning the few bear strikes, and probably all the deer strikes. We should stop and stay around when we hit some wild animal. MAke police reports and pay damages to mother nature. Guy was a complete blithering tool.
Like the bear wants to exchange insurance information.....
We otta feed folks like that to the bears!
