Oil Change on 09 ABS dl650

I went to change the oil on my 09 vstrom and noticed the oil drain plug is behind the exhaust pipe. Am I looking at the right plug? I had an 08 vstrom and had now trouble changing the oil.

It's easily accessed. It's on the left side of the case at the bottom behind an inverted shark fin that is designed to protect it from getting hit by a rock. A 14mm wrench will fit it. It's #1 in the pic.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.

The oil drain plug is on the left side, bottom of crank case. It's right in line with the pedal to you gear shift lever.

What you were looking at was probably the oil gallery drain nut. Its used to drain every drop of oil from the engine in preparation for disassembly. Leave that one there

I added 3 quarts, the oil shows low when off and over the full line when running, is this normal, it seems like last time I had to add slightly over 3 qts to get full. I don't remember the fluctuation before

3qts is slightly more than the full amount to be added when also replacing the filter. The sight glass is to be read with the bike held vertical and the wheels on level ground, not on the side or center stand. With the engine running, oil is pumped into the galleries and the level goes below the glass as a result. You may be seeing spray or mistaking no oil for all oil.

I did my first oil change and checked the level after ~5 miles and I saw bubbles at the top of the oil leve in the sight glass. I didn't see any leaks so checked it again after 10 miles and still bubbles (but less of them).

I then checked after 100 miles and the bubbles were gone.

Any ideas...?
