Found a rubber grommet

2009 VStrom, 7300 miles. Just did the plugs and air filter. Found this grommet on the ground left side of bike, during removal of side panels, gas tank.

Any suggestions on where it goes?

There are rubber grommets on each side under the side panel. Those are also similar to the grommets on my skid plate. I know I have some spares that look just like that as well lol

Possibly a grommet used to secure a side panel push-on-peg to the bike.
It looks a little small though. 13mm? The grommets indicated by 573 on my 1st generation 650 are 26mm OD.
On the right track though.

Well nothing is rattling so sure, why not

I'll pull the side panels again and take a look. Too small for the pins on the side panel.

The one on my salvage bike is sitting on the peg of the sidecover in broken pieces. It may not rattle but it works better with all the grommets in place.

Yup, that's it, this grommet cushions the black plastic thingy (instrument panel cowling?) against the fairing. Exactly the same on my DL1000.

These dislodge easily when you are pulling the plastics off and putting them back on.

Fortunately, they're easily replaceable at the hardware store.
