06 650 vee/ 14 650 shock interchangeable ?

My riding buddy has a clapped out shock on his 2006 650 and I hoped my low mileage 2014 shock would fit. He is
a more mild rider and would like to try mine. Will it fit? Have read varied answers but wondered if someone knows
for sure. If it does fit he can get it set up to create an upgraded piece.

Have you checked the part numbers? Are they the same or not?

I am looking to replace the rear shock on my '04 with a good used one. This thread may be helpful. https://www.stromtrooper.com/v-strom...-2011-wee.html

Definitely NOT the same.

The linked thread is right on the money to answer your question. You can get back to the stock ride height with a set of lowering links. Don't try to make up for the higher ride height by loosening the pre-load. The slighter stiffer shock spring is a good thing. He may want stiffer fork springs afterwards. See Sonic Springs.

Yes they fit. I put an aftermarket shock on my '06 and moved it to my 12. The ride height will be slightly off at worst, the overall impacts on handling are negligible. A used 1000 shock may be even better, it's sprung firmer which most riders prefer and the shock internals are better.
