Exclamation Rear preload knob

Does anyone know where I can get a rear preload adjustment knob Ebay doesn't seem to have them and Suzuki dealer in NZ will be too expensive.

Do you have any motorcycle 'recyclers' in NZ? AKA junk yards for bikes. Unfortunately, I would expect them to want to sell the complete used rear shock with the preload adjuster and knob. Ask, you have nothing to lose.

Do these tend to come loose & get lost on the road? Just wondering why I see this question from time to time.

Unfortunately we don't have any motorcycle wreckers that I am aware of. Just dealers, probably not a big enough market for secific models compared with what is available via the internet.

Haven't had the bike long but when I bought it about a quarter of the bottom of the knob was missing. May have had a slow speed drop at some stage. Broken bits just annoy me and would replace if I could, still works fine just looks wrong.

Sometimes the adjuster gets stuck from not being used for a while. The PO may have used some force to turn it and broke off a piece. Does it turn?

If yes I would not mess with it.

Hi Phil - i have in my shed a 2006 1 Vstrom 1000 shock with a preload adjuster knob on it. (swapped shock for Ohlins and the old shock been in the shed for a few years) These days i have a Vstrom 650 to ride. I will compare the size this afternoon (mothers day duties this morning) and get back to you. If all good, and i cant see why suzuki's shock manufacturer would use a multitude of different sizes, i'll send it to you for free. I have too much crap out there and was going to toss the shock anyway. BTW i am in Christchurch.

The 2004-2011 DL650 rear shock is nearly identical in size/length/mounting hardware to the DL1K shock. I replaced my long-in-the-tooth 650 rear shock with the 1000 shock several years ago and love it. You gain about 1/2"- 3/4" in ride height over stock (which improves turn-in and sharpens handling), the spring is a stiffer wind for us big fellas, and the air/oil internal design is different and resists aeration better than stock. Mounts up perfectly with no modification necessary. If I were you, I'd swap the entire unit and call it good.
